Taillight problem

Bought a 2001 Coleman Taos two days ago.  Very clean unit.  I have given it a thorough once over and found that the right rear tailight brakelight does not work, the running light works but not the taillight.

Can someone guide me here?  I am sure it is a problem with the wiring somewhere as I have changed the bulb with a new one and same thing.

Also, can someone tell me the wiring colors for the plug up front?  The original owner chopped off the 7 pin plug and put on a four essentially disabling the battery charge feature and I want to put it back like it was originally.

I need to know which color wire runs what so I can get them back in the right plug.

Thanks!

HERE is a link that should explain all of the wiring questions you might have.  As for the the brakelight, I assume you used a two filament bulb (one for stoplight and one for tail light).  If you did, I would bet the problem is a bad ground.  You can check that by making a jumper that you connect from the negative terminal on the bulb to a good/known ground on the frame.

Thanks for the link!  Hope this can help me figure out what is going on.  Yes, I have a two filament bulb in there and the running light part does work.  The brake light part does not.

I see you are from Raleigh.  I am from the Cameron area just below Sanford.  Do you ever camp at Jordan Lake?  What can you tell me about it?  We are wanting to try this new camper out very soon and thought that might be a good spot.

THanks!

Well I figured out the problem.

When the previous owner chopped off the 7 pin plug and installed the four he only hooked up one side and the wiring was all screwy.

Got a new 7 pin plug this morning and installed it so it is back like it should be.  Everything works now to included the battery charge circuit.

Easy fix and looks much better than it did and it came with a good feeling that I did it and it is now right!

That link really helped figure out what wire was which...I really appreciate it.

I went to your site and that is a pretty nice site.  I picked up a lot of info from there and even bookmarked it.

I see you are a PD officer....my brother is one in Cumberland County and I am a firefighter for the city.

Maybe we will run across each other one day in the campground!
