Need info on older Starcraft Popup

Ok let me try again. I recently purchased an older Starcraft PU. The ID plate is too weathered to read. I do know it is a Starmaster 8. The state license plate expired in 1977.  Does anyone have any idea of what year it is and if so, where can I get an owner's and repair manual ? The cables need replacing among other things. This a great site with great info, Thanks.

I used to own a 1978 Starmaster-8, and think I can still get my hands on the manual....but don't count on that, I'll have to get hold of current owner.

A former member here (Birol) just sold a 1968 Starmaster-8, and my father used to have a 1965 Starmaster-8. Yes, exact same trailer my dad had then 30 years later I go out and buy one too!

Interesting thing about the one my father had, the bunk ends were canvas, but it had fiberglass hard tops over each bunk end...I remember setting them up many times over the years. I've never seen another one like that either, but it sure was better than canvas tops!
If the data pate is that far gone, there must be a title or something that has the VIN on it....otherwise how will you get tags for it? I suspect you could get your local DMV to trace the info back using that old tag....

One other thing I can think of, if it has an orange stripe on both sides and a slightly curved roof then it's a 1977 or newer... the 76 and older didn't have the orange stripe...

I would recommend emailing Dan at Starcraft.  He has always been an excellent resource for me, especially with repairs, etc.  His email address is:

dcregier@starcraftrv.com

I would ask him your questions and if he does not have the answers, I am sure he can point you in the right direction.

Good luck in your search.

Thanks for all the info. The PU has a brown stripe on the sides about three inches wide and the lower front [tongue] side is painted black. The cabinets are woodgrain and the counter tops are light green. I had a policeman friend of mine run the license tag number and found no record of it being registered. Too long ago is suppose. The friend I purchased the PU from didn't get any paperwork from the neighbor he got it from. They have moved and left no way to contact them. I will email starcraft and see what help I can get from them. Thanks again.

Kenney, I used to have an old Starcraft - mine was an '88 Starmate.  I bought it at an auction and there was no owner's manual.  I called Starcraft (think they are in Indiana) and they sent me at no charge, an owner's manual for my '88.  I don't know how far back they keep them but it's worth a try.  They were very nice folks to deal with.

Look on the inside of one of the cabinet doors. The info was there on my 84 Starmaster 21.

Good news[I think]. I looked at the VIN plate under a magnifying glass and could read it somewhat. The best I can tell the numbers are: serial#73-SM8-58889. Does that make sense? Thanks for all your responses.

Kenny, the # sounds right, mine starts with 74-SM6 and is a 1974 Starmaster 6.  My manual includes your model and year, but is a zerox that was sent to me free by Starcraft a couple of years ago, so I do not think it will copy or fax very well.  I would call Starcraft and ask for a copy, they have them, and sent mine out free of charge.
