Ripped Seam

When setting up our PU this weekend we managed to rip a seam in one of the bunk ends.  Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to repair it?  I bought an upholstry needle and some nylon thread and thought we would try to repair it by going in the exact holes where the original stichting had been and the sealing the seam with a vinyl repair.  Any suggestions?  The tear is small maybe 4 inches.  and nothing but the stitching tore.

Thanks for any help you can give us.  We love our little PU but it rains alot here and that will totally limit our use.

Yes you can just sew it up.  If cotton thread was used originally I would use that.  I would also waterproof the stitching after you sew it so that it doesn't wick water inside when raining.

Cotton thread is usually not recommended for your type repair as it will mildew and rot. Nylon is better but it will stretch and does not hold up to chlorine very well, just in case you ever had to clean the canvas for mildew. The very best selection would be polyester and especially "Sunguard" polester as this is resistant to UV rays as well. You could do a google search for sunguard polester thread and I'm sure it would give you several places to buy it.
