1976 Coleman Gettysburg Popup
12' box...19'6" overall length

Howdy All!

Well, I finally took my new canvas from Bear Creek, out of the box yesterday to look at it...that was my first mistake!

My wife decided it had sat around the house long enough and that WE were going to put it on, lol!

I backed the popup into the shop, turned the fans on, and then went to taking the old canvas off...not to bad! About a 10 minute job...

The new canvas was a lighter weight material, and the  zippers were a little lighter than the original canvas and zippers from Coleman, but not to bad!

It was the exact same color as the original, with the exception of the windows and screens! (Not sure if that was good or not, lol)

The fit was super...everything lined up just great and it looked great! Bear Creek did a great job with the replacement. Other than the 7-8 weeks it took for them to get the new canvas to me, I am extremely satisfied with Bear Creek!

My wife fit the upper rubber on each section, into the track, and I did the bottom...she was super at putting the canvas into the groove with her specialty tool, lol!

The entire job took us about 50 minutes, to an hour to complete! (That included me running in to the house and bringing her a big glass of tea, and a couple of 5 minute tea breaks, lol!)

We left the top up to air out the new canvas smell, but it wasn't a bad ordeal at all!

I now have all new rebuilt beds, new sliderails, and a new canvas!

I am thinking about replacing the old ceiling sometime in the near future and maybe the flooring. My daughter has already told me to get rid of the 70's colors, sigh, so I guess that is also going to be done soon, lol!

What a great way to spend the Labor Day Holiday!

If you can't go camping, at least work on your camper!

What kind of speciality tool did she use?  I have some spots of canvas that need to be put back in the groove and what a pain in the neck that is.

I luv the Beach...

I was being just a tad bit facetious, lol! The specialty tool that my wife used was simply a screw driver that had the round shaft that you can insert different type of bit heads into...she simply used the screw driver without any bits to push the the rubber into the tracks...it worked great for her!

It was about the right size as the rubber, did not tear the rubber, and focused all your hand power into the end of the shaft...worked very well!

I am sorry if I lead you into thinking that we had some high tech piece of equiptment...but it worked really well and did not wear out your fingures!

where are the pictures ?? you keep teasing us with all theses mod's that you are doing, but you never show us your pictures. I am surprised that you didn't replace the ceiling with the tenting removed. would of made that job easier to do. can't wait to see your pictures  :U hint hint

That's ok Brantime.  That idea works for me.  You should see my high tech ice chipper I use for the freezer in the basement.  :)   DH just "loves" it when I use it.

Recumbentman...

Photos, huh? Well I guess I will go out and try to snap a few to post, lol!

Truth be told...the old popup has an old popup paint job...the original, lol!

This is a 1976 model that came out with a beige/tan sorta color that has faded somewhat over the years!

I haven't even gotten to the outside yet as everything works pretty good...just doesn't look the part yet!

I will be getting to the ceiling soon as the plywood has started to flake a little, but still looks okay!

I have the trailer still set up in my shop so I will see if the pictures will take in there...

I haven't uploaded any photos on this site before so I may have to come to you for advice when I get ready to try!

PS...I have some brand new carpet, and I am considering laying it in the camper, however, I just do not know if it is worth the effort of keeping the carpet clean while camping...what do you guys think?
