We are planning on a trip down the Natchez Trace Parkway from Nashville to Natchez, Mississippi sometime in October. Anybody have any info on good campgrounds and things to see along the way? Any info will be greately appreciated, Thanks.........

I know that there are NPS campground(s) along the way, but I don't know anything about them.  I am interested in that route so please post about it after your trip.:)

Tracy is correct...there are several free NPS cg's along the way. We have visited, but not camped in, Meriwether Lewis CG along the way. We live near the Trace just south of Nashville...matter of fact, I will drive under the big bridge on the way home from my parents' house today.

Other than MLCG, I don't know about the others.

This has nothing to do with the subject ... well, maybe sort of ...

It has to do with a subject I've seen posted on PUT before but there never was a satisfactory answer ....

How come, where you park you car/truck, it's called a "driveway", and
where you drive your car/truck, it's called a "parkway" ...?

For the same reason that engines are installed on motor mounts and motors are installed on engine mounts......Simple enough?....

Don't know beans about the other CG but we belong to 1000 Traiols and they have an exceptional one there.  If you call them an tell them you might be interested in joining, you might just get a free weekend there.  Of course you will have to listen to their spiel, but hey a ccouple of free nights can be worth it.  We love that CG and have never ever stayed at a bad one.  They have over 52 parks around the country and yoyu can belong to RPI with it and pay a reduced rate with them.  Now if you join, please tell them that you heard it from me.  Tom Hallock, don't remember my membership number but we joined in Fl about 15 years ago and out home park I believe is Nanchez Trace.  Good luck

I have never camped there, but have driven the Trace from Nashville to close to Savannah, TN.  It's beautiful!  I can't remember how far off the Trace we were, but we did camp at Pickwick Landing State Park.  You might check that area out if it's near a stopping point for the night.

There are several nice parks in the Mississippi section of the trace. Trace State Park is a clean park on a lake just south of Tupelo. The lake was low however early in the summer because of dam repairs. The biggest attraction at the CG are the ATV trails which are fun but very challenging. Tishomingo SP is just a few miles off the trace and one of the prettiest CG's on the trace. A "must see" is Rocky Springs Campground. It's the site of a once booming cotton town that is long gone, but the old church and cemetery is there. There are no hookups, reservations aren't available, and especially on weekends in the fall, campsites can be hard to come by. Another campground is near Natchez, (sorry I can't remember the name). It's not a very pretty CG but clean enough to use as a base camp for exploring the town. The lake is known for its large bass. There are many more sites of interest including indian mounds, the Windsor ruins, and other historical sites. Have fun!
