Hi,
I'm in Va and going out camping today- weather is calling for 25 -35 + wind and gusts.  I have never camped in wind.
Will I be OK?

Watch where you set up your PU.  If a tree has any dead limb hanging, they may come down or a dead/dying tree.  I have been in winds over 40 mph and the PU did fine.  Don't be surprised when the top sways back and forth in the wind.  As long as you have the door in place the top will not be coming down on you.  You may have some problems putting the PU away.  The wind may blow the tenting out in your way when you are popping down.  If it does, lower the roof part way and then stuff the tenting in the camper.  Enjoy your trip.  I can't wait to go camping this coming week.  It has been too long for me.:)

Thanks - The news said Frederiksburg in not in the high wind county, but  30 mile radius of wash, dc calls for gusts up to 45+
Thanks,

Lots and lots of wind all the way down here in Tidewater area...steady winds running from the west at around 20mph or so, with gusts up to 35 mph... had a limb come down right here in my campsite, it landed on the picnic table and thankfully NOT on my bunk end!!

As for the PU, you may experience some roof sway, but otherwise you should do just fine. Do indeed watch for overhead limbs though!

Yeah - my first 'wind experience' and I made it thru... :D I'll tell you a funny story and how I made myself feel better as far as fear.  I parked my truck next to the camper to help 'block' the wind coming off the lake :(   I was to scared to sleep on a bunk end (I was worried about weight distribution with the wind) fear does funny things to me, so I put down the dinette and slept on it - cushins were very comfy - I had just gotten back from going on a 'haunted trail' at the campground...added to the aggrevation   so I layed in the bed listening to the wind.  One of the fews words my son can sorta of say is 'uh-oh' so I had to tell him "it's not uh-oh, it's just big wind, he thought it was funny (you know how kids are when trying to get them to sleep), he wanted to sleep next to me too...on that little dinette - it was cute :D
Well - on to my next adventure...

We had a "wind" experience this weekend also.  Boy Scout camp, in a tent, left for the morning, came back, and a tree was where our tent was.  Luckily, there were a couple of guys around, saw it go down, and barely got our tent and grill out of the way before the tree came loose from the branches it got hung up in.  They said it fell within seconds of them moving our stuff...  It had stormed the night before, miserable, everything was soaked, but at least the tree waited to fall! :yikes:

You will be surprised how much wind a PU can take. We were camping this past July in Cody, WY when a wind storm came up. 70+ winds blew for a hour and a half. We held the Shepperd's poles for over a hour just in case. The front bunk lifted up 3 times during the storm. Since they are experiencing a drought there it was also a DUST storm. The dirt came in every little hole and crevice it could find. While I stood and held that front Shepperd's pole I could watch my feet get covered with dirt. When the storm was over it took us over 3 hours to  clean out the PU the best we could. But every time we popped up more dirt would shake loose from somewhere. We camped 30 days straight on that trip and found Cody dirt every time we made camp. Even when we returned home we found and cleaned out Cody dirt. My TV was facing into the wind during the storm and I had to wash out the engine compartment with a hose because you couldn't see the engine. It was not one of our favorite campsites during that trip. I really thought the PU was going to blow apart like ALL the TENTS in front of us. But it didn't and kept us safe. Thank God.
