?!?!?!?
Hello, Virginia?  So I am wondering who else is out there?  :eyecrazy:  I am finding that the various regional groups that include Va, generally don't camp anywhere near VA.  When a VA trip is suggested, it never happens due to it bing too far for "The Pittsburg, New York, Charlotte, Add Any Location Here" folks.  Now I understand that the camping world does not revolve around Virginia, but I was wondering who else was out there and wanted to camp?
Sincerely,
Tired of driving hours and hours,
Kathryn

Yeah once the weather dies down you see people not getting on here much...I am in Roanoke and we have 2 little ones so we do not travel too far from home.  With that said there are many trips near here.  Where are you?  We have a group of about 3 campers maybe 5 that try and do 2 or 3 trips each summer to douthat or smithmountain lake...

We are Middle Creek Campground and are located in Buchanan VA- just a few hours from Richmond.  We took the campground over in February 06 and are working hard to rebuild it.  We are located at the edge of the Jefferson National Forest within 3 miles of the James River where there is access to fishing, tubing and canoeing, a mile from the Appalachian Trail and close to many other trails.  On site we offer a pool, 2 stocked fish ponds, playground, basketball court, horseshoes, laundry, store, game room, dump station and mobile pump outs.  We have bands and karaoke in the summer as well as wagon rides on Friday and Saturday nights and arts and crafts on Saturday mornings. We currently have some seasonal campers as well as many campers from the surrounding areas that return regularly.

I am here in Va. Beach!  I feel bad now, my first post seems like such a rant, now that I re-read it!  However, I am glad to see that there are people out there (I knew there would be!)
I don't get out too much in the colder weather either.  I am trying to get a good start on the planning for next year.  I have a few 'bigger' trips planned, but most of the outings planned by other groups end up being too far for a weekend (hence my frustruation).
I have been wanting to do Douthat, I have heard it is GREAT!  I am not too familiar with Va state parks, but I figure that since I have lived here my entire life, I may as well use 'em! :p   We will have to plan something for next spring/summer!

We'll be camping at Assateauge Island National Seashore in April, arriving 4/8 and leaving probably 4/13.  Your welcome to join us for all or part.  There are others that might be there duing the Easter weekend, some leaving on Monday after Easter.  Should be a fairly short trip for you, if your in VAB.

We will be at Assateague for the long Easter weekend too.  You are welcome to join us there.  I am also camping with 2 other families at Killens Pond SP, DE about an hour north of Assateague Island for Thanksgiving weekend this year.  Fell free to join us any time.:)

I will try to remember to start checking here from time to time.  My wife wants to do some camping south of where we are for a change.

HOw funny!  I was just checking out the park for that very week!  I have never been before, which 'campground area' (I notice they have several areas) would you reccommend?
And how does the 'first come' thing work?  Don't you risk not getting a site? :yikes:

Are you going to be at the National Park, or the State Park?

The state park usually isn't open at Easter.  The NP doesn't take reservations until April 15th, so this year it is after Easter.  There are enough sites that early in the season you should be ok, although you might not get an ocean side drive in site, and have to camp on the bay side.  I prefer the ocean side drive in.  I like listening to the waves crash on the beach and watching the sun rise over the dunes.:)

Thanks Tracy!  I may try that for Easter.  I am thinking of booking Fairy Stone SP for that time, because I have more 'travel time'.  The NP might be good for a quick weekend for me! :D
