Hello Pop Up Friends;

OK, I am hoping you can help me-when I was browsing around here on the boards last month I came across a posting that was an exhaustive step-by-step process of how this person set up thier pop-up once arriving at camp.  It was long and very detailed and now for the life of me I can't find it.

We are taking out our PU for the first time over Thanksgiving and while we get the basic set-up, this list had things that made me say 'oh I didn't think of that'.

Does anyone happen to know where this is?  Or could the author repost it?

Or for that matter does anyone else have their step by step process/checklist that they would be willing to share?

We just bought a used '06 Palomino Yearling 4124. Can't wait.

Many thanks!!      Kim

If it ended with having a drink, it was mine:D.
This was the original thread

This was for the Viking I had.

1. Back into lot and check for side to side level, adjust as required with blocks or BAL leveler and add wheel chocks
2. Unplug trailer/vehicle wiring.
3. Crank tongue jack to remove camper from hitch
4. Remove safety chains
5. Pull tow vehicle away
6. Adjust front/back level with tongue jack
7. Remove required items from front storage trunk (i.e. Screenroom, portapotty, roof crank, stabilizer crank.. etc)
8. Unsnap roof clips
9. Remove items from rear bumper storage compartment
10. Unzip awning bag if you are vertically challenged;)
11. Crank roof up until guide wire is taut
12. Install roof safety supports on opposite corners (don't forget these when lowering)
13. Lower stabilizers and snug (fine tune leveling by lowering the lowest side first and more snug)
14. Insert bunkend supports on tongue end
15. Pull strap on bunkend out until the bunkend stops
16. Insert two additional supports under bunkend
17. Pull tent material over end and attach bungie cords
18. Close zippers on this end and close tenting over support arms/zippers
19. Insert bunkend supports on opposite end
20. Pull strap on bunkend out until bunkend stops (adjust for teflon slide under bunkend)
21. Pull tent material over end and attach bungie cords
22. Close zippers on this end and close tenting over support arms/zippers
23. Enter camper and close bottom of door
24. Lower upper half of door from ceiling
25. Insert top door guides into the bottom door and snap clip (careful of fabric pinching on sides)
26. Press top of door in and close the clips (careful of fabric)
27. Twist clip to unhook upper door from doorframe
28. Attach tenting to door frame velcro from inside
29. Removes shepherd poles from under mattresses and place to hold tenting up on bunkends.
30. Organize interior (i.e. flip galley up insure drain is open and valves are closed, close water heater drain valves under u-shaped dinnette seat, place cushions, remove stove etc)
31. Exit camper
32. Attach exterior tenting to door frame, careful of alignment
33. Shut 12V supply off to refrigerator
34. Open gas valves
35. Connect 110V and water if hookups
36. Set refrigerator to either 110V or gas and use piezo if gas to light
37. Hookup any graywater container used
38. Open outside shower compartment and bleed air from both hot and cold sides
39. Light water heater after air is purged from system
40. Undo awning from bag and place awning arms, both support and tension, including the center tension bar
41. Install screen room if desired
42. Relax and have a glass of wine or a beer

Here is how it is for us.

 2. Unplug trailer/vehicle wiring.
 3. Crank tongue jack to remove camper from hitch
 4. Remove safety chains
 5. Pull tow vehicle away
 6. Adjust front/back level with tongue jack
7. Unhook latches
8. raise roof and side panels
9. Latch sides securely
(7,8 & 9 take all of 30 seconds combined )
10. Open gas valve
11. Light water heater
12. Get a fire started
13. Remove cork from bottle & pour

Now that's campin!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  Yes, it ended up with having a drink and that is the one!! What a great step-by-step reference for a newbie, or anyone for that matter.  Thanks so very much.

I would recommend cutting and pasting step 42 in at step 5, then 10, then 15, then 20.  By then, you wouldn't care about step 21 and beyond.

DH has one over on you...lately when we camp local, he just gets to show up and crack a beer.. I think he's getting used to me going a day early or early in the AM.

CampDirt

True story:

1.  Show up at campground.
2.  Complain bitterly because you're a newbie, it's raining, and you have a bad head cold (stuffy headachy type).
3.  Shout at roomie for not doing it right.
4.  Both exhausted, plop in chairs with umbrellas open.
5.  Get kind, gentle, experienced camphost to set it up for you.
6.  Pretend you're taking notes so you can remember next time.
7.  Once set up, plop onto bed and take very long naps.
8.  Too tired to get up to turn off battery alarm.  Let battery run down.
9.  Next morning wake up to most beautiful sunrise over the Rockies while cooking a "cowboy" breakfast over the coals.
10. Feel wonderfully happy to be one of the lucky to own a PU!
 :S   :S   :S

Thank you, chasd60, for a great list.  I'll definitely use it.

You guys have it all wrong.  It goes more like this:

1) Set up own camper early.
2) Watch young couple #1 playfully back in and begin setting up.
3) Say nothing as couple #1 forget wheel chocks, and trailer rolls forward and gouges rear bumper just as it comes off the ball.
4) Notice family #2 with small children arrive with very large truck and even larger trailer.
5) Watch as family #2 repeatedly back up and pull forward, trying to get into the perfect *CRUNCH*.
6) Notice that couple #1 are snuggled together by the fire, aparently cooking a small meal together.
7) Shrug as family #2 start yelling at each other about who's to blame for camper crunch.
8) Notice that couple #1's mildly romantic kiss is interrupted by the arrival of family #2's children in their campsite.
9) Notice the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Grizzly Adams, with a beat up old car and a tent.  And three large dogs.
10) Poke fire, trying to ignore chaos on all sides.
11) Noitce that Mr. & Mrs. Grizzly have their dogs tied to your trees.
12) Notice that one child of family #1 thinks it's fun to pet rotwilers.
13) Cover ears as rotwiler lets out a little woof, because that kid's coming THROUGH your site, screaming as though said rotwiler removed a limb from their body.
14) Stand up as dad from family #2 aparently comes after you for hurting his kid.
15) Sit back down as dad and Mr. Grizzly have a "discussion" about his dogs.
16) Notice that couple #1 has gone down towards the beach for some peace and quiet.
17) Invite spouse for a stroll through campground.  She enthusiastically accepts.
18) Notice at another site as two campers try to sort out who's supposed to be hooked to which unmarked connection post.
19) Pick out two or three other campers of styles you've never seen before, and vow to find a dealer where you can check them out.
20) Remove shoes for a stroll along the beach.
21) Stop to watch the waves in the light of the rising moon.
22) Notice couple #1...oh, boy, didn't want to see that.
23) Return to campsite, where all tranquility has returned, and everyone is enjoying their favorite beverage.
