good food, good wine...this is shapining up to be some good times!!! :)   (as usual)

Three days are fine with us...may stay longer if I can..also eating at AJ spurs sounds great so does the wine tasting...I want to do it all.

TheViking

I'm sure we are down for 3 days. Wine is not my thing but, I will be having a Beer and Cactus Cooler tasting at my trailer for those of you that are like me. Everyone BYOB and we will probably be tasting it until the weeeee hours.  We are always down for a good steak too.

Dee4j

AJ spurs sounds yummy!!! pricey but heck I can take a late Valentines..

let's see Friday nite is setup. and Cactus cooler @Viking & Dee's

We want to do:

Potlucks
Solvang
Wine Tasting
AJ Spurs

I guess I'm just thinking what day to do wine tasting . Is it ALL day or a couple of hours? since I don't do the whole wine thing will everyone be up for cooking or in any shape to go to dinner? Shoot the weekend needs to be a day longer. or will enough people be there early on Friday to go?

also if a bunch of us want to go to AJ spurs maybe we should let them know we are coming. Maybe Brad can take on a "mini" taste of wagonmastering and plan the AJ spurs. :p

that's my .02 cents worth.

All day...if you do it right. ;)

I would prefer to do AJ Spurs on the non-wine tasting day. They give you a ton of food and for the price, I want to be sure I am of sound mind and body to fully enjoy it! (no wisecracks)

What about wine tasting on Saturday and AJ Spurs on Sunday? Going to the restaurant on Sunday also might make it easier for them to accomodate a large group.

I like the part about Brad mini-mastering dinner at AJ Spurs. Go Brad, Go Brad, Go Brad! :-()

One more thought: Maybe we could plan the wine tasting so that it's not a haphazard, back-tracking, "are you sure this is the right way?" drive through the Santa Ynez valley. Karen and Jeanne--which wineries did you go to and which were ones you would suggest returning to for tasting? Brad and Mary, since this is more your neck of the woods than ours, any suggestions?

I also looked up a couple of sites if we want to plan which wineries to visit before we set off:

The "definitive" guide to wine tasting in Santa Barbara county

Santa Barbara wine country wineries

I'm just thinking it might be good to have a plan.

Yes, Lori, a plan is a good thing to have!  Depending on the size of the group, which may be sizable from the looks of the dialog, we may want have more than one bus to wine country.  For myself, I would like to hit some of the wineries that we missed last time, but also, wouldn't mind revisiting some of the same ones, too.  I will make some selections on wineries after I give it a bit more thought. There are sooo many good wineries, and sooo little time!!!... what's a wino to do!!!
I like your plan for sat. tasting.  However, it might create problems for the potluck for those who have a lot of prep time for their contributions.  Wine tasting to just several wineries can be time consuming and they don't open til 11:00a.   We could always set a later time for the dinner potluck, like say, 7:00p...would that be too late???

7:00 is cool with me. if my kids get hungry I can always throw them a bone to tie them over ;)

and if we go Wine tasting Saturday after the potluck maybe everyone won't get so Loopy

Wine bus. I can fit 8 :so far I have
Me  :sombraro:
Karen
Lori
Jeanne
Wes?
Jim?
Dave?

if we need another Driver, Dan can drive also but then I'd have to pawn my kids off on someone. Kevin can actually take care of himself I just won't put the responsibility of taking care of Kara on him. I'm just not there yet

I have no problem taking on dinner at AJ Spears. :D  Dinner will have to be on Sunday night, they don't take reservations on Saturday night. So I will ask for a head count in January to find out who wants to go AJ Spears.

QuoteBrad and Mary, since this is more your neck of the woods than ours, any suggestions?
Mary and I have hosted many bike ride events that we ride from winery to winery, so we know the area well. We can show you all around that area and hit just about all of them if you wish. I would suggest that the wine tasting to be on Sunday also. Saturday is such a busy tourist day, so it would be easier to get in and out on Sundays. pulse if we plan on getting back around 5:00pm we could have Happy hour at the CG and then go to AJ Spears for dinner.

I want to warn you wine tasters out there, that they are now charging about $4 to $5 a glass for tasting. :eyecrazy:  So depending on how much you want to spend would dictate on how many wineries we go too .

and for you beer drinkers !! Firestone has a brewery there, that you can go to for some samplings

OOH I'm a beer person, But I'm volunteering to be DD . I think I would have to agree with Lori on the wine tasting Saturday. I myself tend not to be as hungry when I drink and I know a few other people that is true for.  wine tasting then happy hour, nobody will be up for eating (or driving).  How crowded it is may depend on the weather too. It is Feb., we are camping, and El Nino is suppose to be happening so it WILL RAIN!!!

I want to visit the winnerys also, and I get loopy after two glasses.  Dave can be a DD, he always has to drive if I drink...AJ on Sunday is fine with us too.  When to do Solvang? We may have to stay longer to get all this in...That would be too bad
