So the voting has begun. I will put that down as 3 "no's" to Newport dunes for Halloween. Now how about some more input on where you think it should be?

oldmoose

I vote for BV.

Hi all:
Well I went out Buena Vista  today. I wanted to take a few pictures and hopefully be able to send them to all of you.
The campground is 16 miles from my house to the entrance. It's 18 miles to the nearest albertsons. Twentyfive miles to the nearest wal*mart. There is a shell gas station two miles from the entrance of the campground. It has a taco bell located inside. Dave, not to worry about traffic noise from the 5 fwy; it's five miles away! The area between sites is quite large. You can have two large trailers in tandem and able to share hookups :w/e/s! And have space also for two tow vechicles. The restrooms are tight spaced inside but clean. Did not test for hot water!
There was a large number of campers out here today! The picture at the entrance show the last big catch this month of a 20 pound trout! Each site has a table and fire pit. The tables & pits are cemented in place. Lots of shade around the campsites and this is the dead of winter. The roads around all the sites are full of potholes but the entrance showed progress of being resurfaced!
There was a general store that was open today!
Hope this answers some questions that have come up.

Thanks for going out!  I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures, but you're going to have to try your link again, Bob.  It's not coming up.

You are thorough!  The pics looks great - I love how close it is to the lake.

Were there any boats on the water?Moose

Freedom_5

Moose.
I only saw two jet skis parked at the shore line! This is a very large lake. I could not even hear any boat motors. There was how ever, about 30 people fishing along the shoreline on the other side of the campground. It looked like a canal outlet.

A friend of ours camped here last year and know 1st hand that they don't put up with any unacceptable behavior, so what happened at Vail Lake will NOT happen here.  They obide by the rule and will kick you out of the park without warning if you don't comply. If push comes to shove, they WILL call the Police and let them take care of things.

Hi All;
Since things are still up in the air, I want to make another suggestion tonight.
The polling has for the most part, come to a conclusion. I want to throw another campsite into the works for all of your considerations!
 http://www.campingfriend.com/PyramidLakeRVResort/default.asp?file=Home
Yes it is still on the grapevine but you WON'T have to drive as far! It has some good things about it. Look at the site and if the link dosen't work type in Pyramid lake RV resort. This campsite would save at least 90 minutes off the drive over the grapevine. I have never been to this one so it would be new for us as well as for others. It is seculed off the freeway.
Well let me know. I am trying to make it more logistical for the majority.

Bob, you are so sweet to try and be accommodating to everyone. I hope this doesn't scare you off from ever wagonmastering a rally again! :eyecrazy:

If we are throwing more hats into the ring, how about Far West Resorts? It's in Santa Paula (out by Ojai), so it's up the 101 (read: no grapevine) and is a little less "far north." There's no beach or lake, but apparently, there's a fun vintage train ride in nearby Fillmore. The Birch loop might be nice for all of us yahoos...
