Wood valley is nice, but the only place that would really work for us would be the loop at the top of the CG and it only has about 11 sites. I think we would want to reserve around 30. Plus, it's pretty far south for our LA, Valley, and Lancaster friends, who already seem to come South more often that we go north. I was thinking it would be more fair to spread the driving around--that's why I was trying to find something up that way.

Calico doesn't sound like it would be a good choice...what about Far West Resorts in Santa Paula, Birch section, or maybe Lake Casitas, Bass section? Both are out by Ojai.

For those of you who haven't been around as long or just don't remember, Far West is where we had a November rally about 3 years ago (we had to bow out--Little G was sick), and of course, Casitas was where this whole group intrepidly got together for the first time in September of 2002, warily trying to figure out who was the ax murderer among these people we had only just met on the Internet!!!:yikes:

Lake Casitas!!!

Quote from: waveryHow about a nice "Reasonably priced" beach campground, like Doheny, Refugio or Leo Carrillo. I know that some are less comfortable with dry camping. I'd be happy to share my (quiet-Honda) generator with a few other folks :D . Each of those places has nice showers and water available.

NO DRY CAMPING!! I can't dry camp the wiring is fried to my battery. besides if I wanted to Dry camp I would have never bought an RV.

I have to have at least water & electric...I put my time in... the whole point is to get away...relax...you know,  a little R&R..a mini vacation...if I have to work harder than I do at home then what's the point.

That's my 10 cents worth....

as far as where we go..well if you plan it..they will camp....but I AIN"T planning it

I certainly can do with out the nasty golf carts and the hayride IS WAY OVERPRICED. and all the other stuff was just our group...

I'm with Dee - no dry camping. I'm for full hook-ups and cable.

Those both sound great.  We've tried three different times to go to Far West and one thing or another has caused us to have to cancel (screwed up change in soccer championship one year, our dog getting attacked by another dog as we literally were hooking up the trailer another time and off to the doggie ER we went).  It looks like a great place.  Lake Casitas would be okay, as long as the hybriders don't mind all of us old-time pop-uppers using your bathrooms and showers!   That's my only gripe -- the showers are few and far between and not real clean.  However, the last two times I've gone it's been a holiday weekend, so probably not a great representation of the place.

I'd lean toward Far West personally.  Isn't there a train ride or something near there too?

A heads up on Far West. the CG and the County of Ventura are having issues and the county might being closing down the CG. Far West has 3 weeks to work out there issues with the county. This is per a recent article in the local newspaper.

here is another suggestion outside of Bakersfield. never been, but sounds nice

Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area

that looks kinda neat. i wouldn't mind trying it. Freedom 5 lives in/or near Bakersfield. maybe he's been there

Buena Vista CG is a real nice place Kristi and Camped there a year or so ago. The lake is right there too. Jet Ski time.

Buena Vista gets my vote. I think it would be a good rally CG too.  They have a nice playground, Volleyball courts, a little store, we can fish, etc.

Well here goes......I'll miss VL it was our very first camp out with the SCCampers and meeting everyone....I know it's loud and we didn't have our Electric most of the weekend and the carts were everywhere....But somehow it's says Halloween.....Or is it our group??. Our grandkids love doing this campout but I don't think it's the CG it's the people and trick or treating at each trailer and the costume contest and the movie nights were a huge hit which all can be done anywhere. Most of VL's activities we have never done due to the high price.......All I know for sure is we go with the group and plan on going where ever........Moose is correct about Calico it is not a good CG for our group......carol

Buena Vista has 82 sites with full hookups. Looking for more info but looks like it's $39 night and 10 or more get a 10% discount. Paula and I drove by there years ago and it's loud from the boats. Can't remember how it looked though.

We camped at Lake Castias last April and had a very nice time.  They have some nice spots that are in the shade, not sure how many.  The water slide will probably be closed in October.   We're planning on going again this spring with DH's work buddies.  It's a very nice large campground spread around the lake.  We had a nice time riding our bikes around and enjoying everything.  DH's work buddies enjoyed attempting to catch fish.

We're up for anything.  I feel for the person who has to make the final decision.  There are so many nice places to go, they may have to pick the location out a hat.

OC Campers

If you choose Bakersfield, the Cantrell's might be able to join you.  I might even be able to talk Zambonie into joining us too.  Bakersfield is only a 5 1/2 hour trek for us.  As a past Halloween VLR wagonmistress (2002) I agree that it is the people not the place that makes the rally.
