Ok Dee, I got the hint!
Yes, Buena Vista in Bakersfield is a nice campground as Brian will also attest to. http://www.co.kern.ca.us/parks/bv.htm. Having said that I will go again and take some pictures of the cg sites. I can't say how soon this will be with Xmas fast approaching and it will be raining up here, this weekend. I have reread all the posts this morning and get the sense that it really dosen't matter where as long as there is full hook ups, a large area to have fun in, a playground close by, good clean restrooms/showers, and no late night deputy dogs running around saying we are too loud, playing apples to apples! Oh and tv hookups for Dave!
The Halloween theme is our own imagination. You do it for the kids in mind and want them to have a good time, so we can have fun in the process. So now comes the decision you all need to vote on. Our family would wagonmaster this next Halloween rally @ Buena Vista in Bakersfield! Keep in mind that we have not done this particular rally because of our daughter's birthday party is always scheduled the same weekend. I am going out on a limb without consulting Trina or Theresa but I think that Theresa would be happy to have the SCCampers blowing out the candles on her birthday cake.
So I have rattled on enough. the ball is in each of your courts! Vote now.... :yikes:

I'm In.  Bob keep in mind that if this campground doesn't do a bunch of Halloween hoooha like VLR they may have plenty of openings so you can pick ANY weekend in October This year halloween falls on a Wed.  That way you don't have to make it on Teresa's B-Day. At Vail the date was always determined by 1. not actually on Halloween and 2. when VLR had enough openings to hold all of us.

I like Castitas too. But Trina..if we stay in Bass it's only W & E. this is when I don't share my bathroom and showers. I would have to hitch-up to dump the tanks.. Dan HATES the bathrooms there!! if we stayed in the full hook-up section..then I woudn't care.

Wavery: if you're going camping with us on the next campout on Prez day..then make sure you sign up under That thread.

COOL!!!  we're Halloween camping....Go BOB :-()  Go BOB  :-()

Go for it Bob.  The only way to learn how to wagonmaster is to jump in with both feet.  How warm is Bakersfield in October?

Or...... Lake Buena Vista still sounds good too.  :D   And, so does Lake Casitas!

As long as the kids get to do the Halloween thing they are happy.  And, if they are happy, I'm happy! :-()

So, what was the decision?  We loved Calico Ghost town..we took a road trip one year and had a blast but did not stay in the camp ground.  It is all dirt and no shade.  But, if we could get the entire camp ground, or a big part of it, might be fun.  When we went years ago, we were able to go in and out with our one price.

Just dont plan it for the 3rd weekend in October, we wouldn't be able to go.  My 30th class reunion and I am on the committee.  So, kinda gotta be there.

How about William Heise in Julian.  They have a circle with electric, no water hookup and very nice bathrooms with a BIG common area right in the middle of the ring.

Sounds good to me :D

Sounds like time for a vote or something. Then, maybe a new thread with an appropriate title. :p

Hi all,
So far the voting has been slow! :eyecrazy: I suspect that it is the "hurry and rush" that is preventing votes from being tallied! I would ask that all of you "network" with your close compadres and get them to send in their vote. I will take on the wagonmaster duties. I will be asking Lori, Dee and Krisiti for their wealth of knowledge after the holidays!
I forsee that the 2007 Halloween rally will be in Bakersfield ( central Calif.) @ Buena Vista lakes. I am researching the weather channel and online to share what a few of our Octobers have been like in recent years.

Hi Bob
Have you contacted Buena Vista Lakes to verify that they have a weekend available and how many sites we can reserve ? No use getting into the details if we can't get in for some reason.  :yikes:

Did I miss something?  Is there a separate poll area that I missed for this trip? or am I having another "blonde" moment.:eyecrazy:   Man I am afraid of what it will be like when I am having "senior" moments and "blonde" moments together.:eyecrazy: :yikes:

I want to know more about this place before I vote.  Bakersfield -- and surrounding areas -- can be hotter than blazes in October, and I'm not particularly keen on placing myself in an oven, especially when school has just started & I'm tired of months of heat.  Staying on this side of the Grapevine might offer at least the illusion of cooler temperatures, but I can be swayed with nice pictures that include lots of shade, and certainly good company.

I agree that someone needs to contact the CG to find out if there's anything available before we all go getting ourselves revved up for a place that might not be available.  Maybe a call before Christmas, just to check this out, would be in order.  Then we all can ruminate on it until after the hustle & bustle has died down a bit.

Thanks for your willingness to spearhead this!

October is what is called a "Transitional period" in weather. No matter where we go, there is the possibility of extremes. I'm ALWAYS in favor of beach camping but the same goes there.

Here are the extremes and averages for Bakersfield in October-November:

October ......Avg high 80.0
