Quote from: OC CampersNot to put a damper on this cg but we have stayed at East Shore RV a couple of times with our church campout. We always stayed in the bottom section. It is a nice place for a group outing. The sites are large, grassy and the trailer pad is paved. They also have a large fire pit for Dee's bonfire. I think all of the sites have full hookups. Now there were a few things we didn't like.

1) They have a SEVERE skunk problem. I swear hundreds of them come out at night. Our friends golden retriever got sprayed in the face the last time we were there. To a suburban dog a skunk is just another dog until the tail gets llifted:yikes: .

2) The bathrooms were nasty. I don't think they were cleaned the entire weekend we were there. This was the first time we had ever seen feces smeared all over the wall before.

3) The cg is set at the end of a runway to the small airport in Pomona. We had small aircraft taking off all day over our campsites. It was very noisy.

Now one of the good points is there is a lot to do for the kids. Raging waters water park is just across the lake from the campground.

Sorry, I just wanted to give you my .02 worth.

You only say that because you didn't get any Chiggers :p .

I think skunks are cute. I used to live in the middle of a golf course, in Azusa. We had lots of skunks there too. Our dog never had a problem with them but he never chased them either :eyecrazy: .

We'd go for walks on the golf course, in the evening and see families of skunks everywhere. We lived there for 4 years ('79 -'83) and I never smelled a skunk.

#2 & #3 (in OC Campers' post) are enough to turn me off though.

Well, it's definitely closer for me!  It would take me longer to get my HTT and hook it up than it would to get there.

I tried getting a weekend reservation FOR ONE in October and they appear to be booked online.  It was too late to call, but my guess is that we'd be incredibly lucky to get a couple of sites, let alone 25-30.  But you never know ...

It would be fun to go there, if only for the convenience, sometime.  If not for Halloween, maybe late winter/early spring.

Poor Dodger didn't chase the skunk, he did what dogs do best.  He sniffed its butt:p .  WRONG THING TO DO!!  This was just like the golf course you talked about.  They were everywhere!!

when I was there I used the bathroom and it was nice. I did use the one in the office/store. we camped there once with a YMCA group I don't remember the bathrooms being especially icky...not sure I want to deal with skunks..

Quote from: AzusateachAgain, with all due respect, this place is sounding less & less attractive. Reserving 15 weeks in advance means that someone has to watch the calendar (kind of like what might happen with Shaver Lake ...). And if not all sites have hook-ups, then that could pose a problem if people who are more ... "organized" make the call first to get hook-ups & don't really need sewer, and those who'd really like totally full hook-ups lose out.

Respectfully (get the feeling I'm a little nervous here?), couldn't we do better? Isn't there some place, maybe toward Santa Barbara, that has full hook-ups, will accomodate our size group, and accept reservations now?

Laura
May I throw a monkey wrench in here?

Other cgs near Kernville/Bakersfield that may be easier to reserve:

Rivernook

A family's pictures of a trip to Rivernook

or maybe Camp James

Ahhh ... I like them!  I think I'd like Rivernook better for our group -- sewer hook-ups (I'd be fine for a weekend without them).  I also like that there are no boats on the river at this point -- looks like you have to go to Lake Isabella to do any boating.  Camping on a lake with boating makes for lots of noise in my book.

I like Camp James, too.  It looks like a quiet little campground -- perfect for a springtime getaway, Lori?

My vote's for Rivernook.

Sign me up :D

LET'S GO CAMPING

At this point, I'd sign up for camp Guacamole (or whatever the chigger place was called) with skunks...........and cockroaches :p

OC Campers

Both places look really nice.  In fact if you go on the Rivernook site Lori gave us and click on "facilities" there is popup in the picture:) .

That guy sure carries a lot of spare tires :yikes:

Both places take us about 3 hours to get to from Thousand Oaks. There are 2 ways to get there; one through Bakersfield and the other through Mojave. Both are nice camps, but don't want to drive for 3 hours. We can get to BV is probably 2 hours from TO. Just my humble opinion.

So, are you camping over the holidays?  Are you going to be a blitherin' mess by February?  :D

Not trying to hijack anything, but ...

Puddingstone has openings after Jan. 1, and it's tempting to take the new HTT out on a short jaunt -- close to the dealer, if I run into any problems.  Weather always seems great in January, too.  Anyone else on vacation through the 8th that wants to get out for a couple of nights?

We're game :D

We were talking about going to Pt Mugu on Dec 27th - 29th. Puddlestone is fine with us :D  The beach might be a bit windy and cold (like today) anyway. Carolyn is dying to meet "JED". We're both dying to just get away camping for a few days.

I agree with moose, in the fact to get to these Cg's we would have to climb two mountain ranges and the Hwy out of Bakersfield up to Lake Isabella is a 2 lane road all the way up. That would be no fun.
I think we would have better Luck with one of the following:

East Shore RV Park
Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area
Lake Elsinore Marina

Does anyone else have more Idea's on CG to go too !!

Once we have the different options on CG's, maybe we should start a new thread with a poll to get an idea on what CG we should try out (maybe all of them !!!)
