Quote from: BootheBunchActually, no. I mean, yes, I know Bran is getting the generator, I suppose. But, we are having a circuitry problem...and the battery is still being drained, causing a problem. So, lucky for me...I might not have to dry-camp until that problem is fixed! :D

BTW, I sure hate dirt!

Being a lawyer has nothing to do with it. I'm merely talking about how there seems to be a perception that the way in which one camps seems to matter in the big scheme of things, when really, all that should matter is that we're all counting "wake ups" until we are back camping together.

BTW, although I may be a lawyer, it is merely the way by which I happen to earn a living. It doesn't define who I am or how (I hope) others perceive me. In fact, I'd like to think that neither Dave nor I "act" like lawyers. If anything, we try not to let others know we're lawyers. Guess our cover's blown now...:)

Well said.  What we camp in is obviously a matter of preference.  For those of us a little longer in the tooth we've had experiences to help us refine those preferences. (For me, a 40+ year journey.)  How I choose to camp is fluid and will continue to evolve for quite some time I think (maybe a 5th wheel for retirement?).

I so appreciate the flexibility of this little bunch of folks.  I don't feel bad when I go to bed at 9:00 or leave by 7 a.m.  I enjoy being teased about my "minimalist" set-up style and love razzing others about bringing everything including the kitchen sink (thanks, Todd & Kevin!).

When people ask me who I camp with I tell them that it's an ecclectic bunch with lots of different rigs & lifestyles.  I think that's what drew me to y'all -- I didn't want to be labeled a single or women-only camper.  I just like being a SCCamper.

That being said, I hope that we can continue to gently chide, tease, and poke a bit of fun at each other -- as long as it stays that way.  I don't like the between-the-lines stuff that can be misconstrued.  It would be sad to see that errode ...

What a lively discussion.  My point (was there a point?) was meant to be that some people will only camp with hookups.  No matter what other attributes, if the site doesn't have hookups some won't stay there.  I didn't mean to make a judgment.

On the other hand, after leaving San Clemente I rolled 5 miles down the road to Doheny site 54.  Unfortunately our neighbors on each side felt it critical to engage their generators within minutes of arriving in camp and run them most of the day.  This reminded me why I actually like campgrounds with electrical hookups.  I may not need to plug in (no AC or Microwave) but appreciate the lack of Briggs & Stratton's song.

PS-
What's this about lawyers? I thought Lori was a champion dutch oven cook and Dave was a man of leisurely contemplation.

Quote from: griffsmomNot sure why it has to be viewed as divisive. Whether one doesn't mind, or perhaps even likes, camping w/o electricity/water/sewer, or whether one prefers the amenities that hook ups afford, we all still have a love of camping in common. I really have never been able to understand how there can be hierarchies of "acceptable" styles of camping. Is it really so egregious if someone likes to use a microwave or watch a little tv while camping? Ultimately, aren't we all wussies to purist tenters or even those who choose to sleep directly under the stars? I think most of us started out in tents and now we all have moved on (note that I didn't say "up") to different styles of camping that makes each of us more comfortable in our own particular way, be it PU, chalet, hybrid, TT, TH, or MOHO. Ultimately, we all sit around the same campfire, and that's one of the great things about this group--you are welcome and accepted regardless of your camping "style." I hope we never lose that quality.

Amen Sista..well put

hey as long as there is fire, beer, and cactus coolers and friends to hang out by the..life is good. besides isn't also about the kids..they don't care, they just want to see their friends, play in the dirt and get wet

Oh.....so now you're doggin the people that have generators!!!!!!   LOL

LISA!!!! Dirt is good for you......Just ask your kids :#

Besides...that's what campings all about. Dad & the kids drag the dirt in and Mom gets the joy of getting it out. :sombraro:  Just think how boring camping would be if you didn't have any dirt to get out of the camper.......Heck, some women go out and get a dog, just so they have someone to clean up after. :D

Isn't camping grand?? :tent:
