Quote from: waveryThanks for the link for Dee but I think Azusateach was just poking fun at me about my spelling. I think she has teacheritis or something. :p

She's just getting back at me for all the times that I've picked on her. :D

No, I wasn't.  I didn't know what Thornehill Broome was.  Now I do.  Thanks Recumbentman!

This weekend I'll get some pictures of the dolphins swimming by (if they cooperate).

This is right on 101, correct?  Does the ocean sound drown out the freeway?  Are dogs allowed on the beach there?

This stretch of 101 is not freeway. It's only 1 lane in each direction. It's about 10 miles south of Ventura and night traffic is relatively light.

The traffic noise isn't that bad (except the occasional motorcycle) and it is actually pleasant if the traffic wakes us because we can go back to sleep, listening to the waves break on the shore. Some people find that disturbing, we find it quite soothing.

I'm not sure what the actual "Rules" are about dogs but we see people walking their dogs on the beach all the time. I've never seen anyone say anything. Most people there have dogs.

Thanks.  Do you have to come with full tanks of water, or is there somewhere you can fill up when you get there?  I'm assuming there are not dump stations along there, either.  How do you make reservations?

There are water spigots along the road (in the CG) to fill up with water. There is a dump site, across the street at Sycamore CG. It's all part of the Pt Mugu CG and you can use their dump station. If you decide to come, I'll help you with it, if you'd like. I'll PM my cell # to you.

I don't think that you will need reservations. It's too late for Friday anyway. Reservations have to be made 2 days in advance. There were 25 sites open this morning. We hardly ever make reservations there in the winter and haven't been turned away yet. You'll love the price too :D

Thanks, but I can't go this weekend -- I'm not that impulsive with this trailer yet.  :D  But I might just do it in March.  For us teachers, that's the longest month of the year and getting away to somewhere like that might just be a nice little break.  We'll see.

If you want to check out March, Go to the link below, click on the date (a calendar will pop up) plug in a date then click on "BOOK NOW" next to "TH Primitive". It will tell you how many sites are available on what date. You can then click on "Next 2 weeks" and check the entire month. I just checked it and the entire month is wide open. All the sites are the same:

I was looking at that. would I have to get 2 sites? it says driveway length is 31 ft. My HTT is 31 ft long

griffsdad

We have nothing planned in March.

I've seen lots of big 5'rs in there. The spaces are a lot longer than 31'. My trailer is 25' opened and I can unhitch my TV and pull it forward 6' without a problem. I'll measure them this weekend but I think that they are closer to 40-45' long.

Some people park their TV sideways, half onto the sand, with the drive wheels on the pavement. We sometimes park 2 vehicles in our space that way (see my Mugu pics)

March 16-18 sounds good to us. Sounds like we could have a mini-rally :-() . The nice thing is that we could each make our own reservations. The bad news is, they don't have assigned sites. I'll ask the ranger (when I get there today) if the first person in could arrange for several sites in a row, for a group of reservations. The only problem is, there may be people that are already there that could be in the middle of our group. However, I don't really see that as a problem, just a bigger party :-() .

I measured the spaces yesterday, Some are 55' and some are 60'. I didn't find any under 55' long. You could pull in and leave your TV hitched up, if you want.

We had a good time this weekend. We even had some rain. I love waking up in the middle of the night to raindrops falling over our heads.

It was definitely "Cuddle weather". We found a baby seal (we think he was sick). I posted the pics in my "PtMugu" Album on the Webshots link below. It's the last 6 pictures in that album.

Our across-the-street neighbor is an LAPD officer and he said it was raining in LA all day Saturday. We laughed and said if we had gone camping at O'Neil like we were thinking of doing on the spur of the moment, it would have rained in OC too! As it was, we stayed home and it was dry as a bone. :J

If you get a chance, check out the pictures (in my webshots album). There were some guys there that were setting up these really cool rock sculptures on the beach. They also had some neat wood carvings.
