After last Elk Season I decided that sleeping on the ground is for the birds! The wife and I have discussed buying a trailer and decided a popup would be perfect considering she won't let me buy that big Dodge diesel for a couple more years. We have shopped around and have decided that the Fleetwood Westlake will suit all of our needs for the next few years, or until the kids get too big and force us into something bigger. Anyway I have made my initial contact with the two closest dealers who have this pop up in stock. The quoted prices are (drum roll)
$10,123 from the Dealer in Medford Oregon and $11,005.25 from the dealer in Redding California. I would appreciate anyone recommending any other dealers in Oregon, Northern California, Southern Washington, or Western Idaho who they have had good luck with. I really don't want to pay more than $8500 for this trailer as thats what my budget can currently support. What do you all think, is that price in the ballpark for this trailer? Do you think that a dealer would cut $2k from their initial quote? I will keep this thread updated on my progress to owning a new popup.

All that being said If you have a dealer who deals in a different brand with a comparable trailer (which I know they all do) in any of the locations I posted feel free to recommend them as well. My plans are never set in stone.

Welcome to PUT!

My dealer her in PA had the 2007 Westlake on sale for $7895, back in September, 2006.  At that time they had the retail price listed as$10,216, including the awning/canopy.  Are you getting air conditioning, a furnace, or any other options on the trailer?  West of the Mississippi trailers usually cost a little more.:D

I was thinking about a furnace as it gets pretty cold during elk season, I'm not sure about A/C yet as I would like to take a few trips out to the desert for some rockhounding but then all I would be doing is sleeping in the popup. I guess it really depends on what options I can get and still stay on track with my budget.

OC Campers

Prices seem to be quite a bit higher here on the left side of the country.  We own a 2001 Westlake and have had lots of fun with it.  I don't know if the 07 is the same floor plan as ours but we have 3 kids and there is plenty of sleeping space for them.  We bought our camper new in April 2001 in southern California and paid $8,988.  It came with the furnace, sand pads and other standard features.  We bought it in Ventrura at All Tent Trailer Sales/Rentals.  We tried to buy the exact same trailer in Orange county and the best deal I could get was $10,500.

Recumbentman

try looking in RV trader online and plug in your RV type and zip code and you will get a listing of what PU are selling for in your area. You might even find a good used PU in your price range.
good luck and welcome to PUT

Well I took Recumbentman's advice and did a little search at rvtrader and found a sweet 06 Viking that has everything I want and the price is more reasonable (trailer is used so some of the depreciation is out of it already) than that of the new Fleetwood which they don't want to sell to bad as they are sticking firm at $10k. I am Reno bound for the superbowl but hope to get over to the coast to look at the Viking in a couple weeks. I will keep yall advised as to where I am at on my little adventure.

Maybe you could trade your super bowl tickets for a PU.;)

Good luck on the PU hunt.:)
