I just called the Lake and asked about the smoke and the lady said the skies were clear and no smoke.  I was worried because the wind has changed and we were starting to get smoke from the fire up here in Apple Valley.  So maybe it's a good thing we're heading out of town.......It's not so nice anymore around here....See Ya soon.   Carol

Thanks, I was going to do that, I mean call cg.  I called my mother who lives in Ventura and she said no smoke there and as long as we get a westerly breeze we will be fine but if an east wind gets going we are in trouble...like Wayne has said the weather looks good until the weekend anyway...See ya there...we should have a big enough fire for a great BQ on Saturday..All we need to do is throw a couple of burger against the mountain and WAHLA cooked anyway you want them....kidding aside I am bringing Corn on the Cobb for everyone..Sat. night. as my side dish.

Apple Valley is about 120 miles due east of the fire. You should find some relief at Casitas as long as the wind doesn't shift to the north.

Just so that no one is going uninformed here........if the wind picks up out of the NORTH (the fire is 5 miles North of Casitas), that fire could be in Casitas in the matter of a few hours. As we all know, that type of scenario happens in SoCal nearly every summer.

Back in 1980, 250 homes were burnt to the ground in Bradbury Estates, near Duarte, CA in just such a situation. We went to bed that night watching the fire go over the top of the mountains behind Duarte/Azusa. At mid-night there was a wind-shift and by 5:AM there was a firestorm that traveled at 30mph.

We may need to take turns fire watching...Sounds like you are thinking of not going?? We saw how fast the fire spred in S.D.  My kids had to evacuate.  If we are told to leave I would leave the trailer and just go.....

Take it from a retired firefighter. That would be the smart thing to do.  Russ

Our 2 sons lost their house in the SD fire.

We are still going. We will just turn and leave if we smell smoke.

It looks good. They are forecasting W to SW breezes which should keep the smoke away from the CG.

Thanks Wayne, we had a wonderful time and wish we could have stayed longer but unfortunately, we had to be home today so Josh & Sarah could get assessed for pre-school.

Wayne - If you're interested in an SCCampers shirt, you can sign up for one on the "Speaking of Shirts" thread.

If there is interest next year, we would be happy to wagonmaster it.
