I am mentally getting ready for camping and am thinking of my book supply in the camper.

What have you read lately?  I'm looking for what DH calls "no brainer" reading -- Danielle Steele type stuff, Patricia Cornwell, etc.  I guess you could call it "beach reading" although we aren't going to the beach until spring break.

Thanks in advance,

Tena

not really "Danielle Steele" person....

I recently read "Freakonomics."

Interesting book and very easy to read, even if you don't like economics and such stuff. Kinda opened my eyes, although I don't believe everything in the book...

I don't care for the romance novels myself, but do enjoy a light novel at the beach.
My favorite  authors are John Grisham, Andrew Greely, Patricia Cornwall, Mary Higgens Clark.

some friends of mine have recently read Gods in Alabama, sorry don't know the author.  They said that was good.

I read VC Andrews books and just bought the newest one yesterday.  I have a lot of her books and hope to purchase the rest of them soon.  I used to buy them as soon as they came out but for many years I gave up on trying to find time to read.  Since getting back into it I am way behind on my purchases.

The Divide, by Nicholas Evans

The Second Time Around, by Mary Higgins Clark

Don't Wake Me at Doyles, by Maura Murphy

Skinny Dip, by Carl Hiaasen

Happy Reading!

I LOVE Patricia Cornwell.  She and Mary  HIggins Clark don't write fast enough for me!

I just finished "The Memory Keepers' Daughter."  It was pretty good.  I like most James Patterson books too.

As for VC Andrews and Danielle Steel, IMHO, it's the same story line, just different names of characters and locations.  AACK!

I have read a lot of Clive Cussler novels. Fun, easy, relaxing read.

"A Walk In The Woods" by Bill Bryson

It's an easy read, it's really funny and a perfect read while in the outdoors.

In a nutshell, It's about a 40 something year old guy that's about 75lbs overweight that moves back to the states after living overseas and his new home is near the Appalachian Trail. He had never heard of the trail, and was surprised to learn that it started in Georgia and ended in Maine or vise versa depending on where you happen to start. So he is intrigued by this trail and decides to gear up invite an old college friend along and hike from Georgia to Maine.

It was hard for me to put down.

My DH and DS loved that book.  I read it and it took me about 2 years to do so. It was hard for me to pick up and keep reading.  He walked the trail faster than I could read the book.  I did like all geology in the book, that was the best part for me.

Have just started on my second book now by Vince Flynn - "Executive Power." I just finished his "Transfer of Power" and I really enjoyed it. The biggest problem was that it got my adrenaline up so that if I was reading it in bed at night it might take awhile to get to sleep afterwards. :book:  Great books though.

I have read all of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child's books.  All very good reading.  A new one will be out in June this year.  If you want to try them start with "Still Life with Crows"

I am working my way through all of Michael Connelly's books.  Pretty decent typical cop stuff.  If you want to try him start with "Chasing the Dime"

I have tried to read James Rollins but he is a little campy for my taste.  His books are very "Indiana Jones ish" with more campyness.  I was looking for something similar to Douglas Preston and Lincoln Childs.  Not similar.

I am closing in on Michael Connelly's total so I am looking also.

Our teachers' book club read The Birth of Venus last year.  Boy, was that a jaw-dropper!  Can't remember the author, but she's written several.  I, too, am a fan of Clive Cussler.  Good, clean fun.  As I like to call him, he's the poor man's Tom Clancy.  Much more readable.

There are also lots of great kids' books that have come out since I was in school.  A couple of the more provocative are The Giver by Lowis Lowry, and Wringer by Jerry Spinelli.  Quick reads, but powerful.

I've got a stack of both grown-up & kids' books to read this summer.  Can't wait!

I am a Clive Cussler fan myself and waiting on his latest book.....
