Can anybody share their experience camping at Rusk, TX?   We're headed there this weekend, our 1st trip with the pop-up and the two kids.  Can't wait.

Thanks,
Craig

We just got back from Rusk.  Campground is very clean and well attended to.  The Texas State Railroad stops in the park.  If you're not familiar with it, it's a steam train that runs from Rusk to Palestine.  The engine we saw was built in 1917.  The train runs right thru the campground, it's pretty cool if you like trains.  Bathrooms/Showers were very clean.  The only complaint is the close proximity of the other campers.  We recommend it.

Thanks,
C.

I'm glad to hear the state didn't close down the RR. We want to head out that way and let the DS ride the train. Glad you had a good trip.

Sure glad to hear that!  We have talked about going there this Spring, but never got a chance.  We were afraid we had missed the RR.  That's great news!  Now we can add it to one of next three trips.  We just got our 1994 Viking popup, and we're excited about using it as much as possible.

Thanks again!

Be sure to check with the park on the running schedule of the train.  Our Scout Troop went out there in Fall 2006.  We had to change weekends for the trip because the train was not running due to budget cuts to the Texas State Parks.  Hopefully that has changed for the spring/summer time of the year, but it might be a good idea to check before heading out there for a disappointment.  Have fun, PLD.
