i am picking up a fleetwood cobalt with 10 inch tires . need feed back on problems anyone has had running small tires. is the tire big enough for highway speeds (60mph or so ) . thanks

i would guess if they are coming from the factory that way then they would be safe.  that being said, check the labels on the tire as well as in the owners manual.  if you stay below max weight ratings and keep the tires properly inflated (which is VERY important on a small tire) you should be OK.

I'll second that.

I have 10-inch tires on my Jayco.  After having to buy a new set of tires on a road trip due to a couple of 'rookie' mistakes ~ underinflated tires and improperly loaded PU ~ I learned my lesson!  Now I check the pressure frequently, load the trailer right and I haven't had any more problems.  (... and highway speeds across South Dakota are a little higher than 60 mph  ;) )

They are safe ~ just keep them inflated properly like Travis said.

The 205/65-10 tires haev a diameter of just over 23 inches. Your average 185/80-13 trailer tire has a diameter of only slightly over 24 inches.

Folks assume since the wheels are small the tires are going a lot faster and aren't "safe" or cause more wear on berings/etc.

Just keep the pressure at what it calls for on the sidewall, and NO it's not correct to leave them a couple of pounds low to "make up for the pressure increase when they heat up". Tire manufacturer's have been making tires for over 100 years now and have lot's of experience with the pressure growth in tires as you drive and have figured it into their maximum pressure when cold inflation figures.
