Is this still an "active" club? Need to meet others in Central TX to share PU's with.

We just bought our first PU in the Dallas area.  A used Jayco. We are taking it to the dealer this week to have it detailed and fixed up.  Would also like to meet similar minded PU owners in the central Texas area for a couple of camping trips this year.  Any advice will be welcomed! We are new to pop ups also.  We took delivery on March 29th and took it out as rookies on March 30.  We are located in Houston also.

We have a 14 year old and a 5 year old.  The rest have flown the nest already. Did you guys buy a new camper or a used one?  Ours is about 9 years old and it is currently at the RV dealers getting a face lift.  We have no clue what we are doing but am jumping in with both feet.  We also have a sailboat I have been restoring and have no clue how to sail.  Hope to do camping and sailing this summer, my goal is to survive both ventures (smiling)....Hope to hear back.

We bought a new camper.  We started out looking at used ones and even some that needed restoring but decided we wanted to go without waiting on repairs. We are taking it out for the second time this weekend.  We fish a lot and want to be there on the water when the fish start biting.

Great.  I am really wanting a coleman Niagra, but the wife is in nursing school and I found this Pop up at such a bargain, I couldn't pass it up.  The plan is to use this for 2 years, so the baby can start having fun...then give this one to the 2 boys that deer hunt all the time, so they can use it at deer camp, and moma and I will buy what we really want later.  Its a plan anyway.  We are going to try our first shake down campout in about 2 weeks after we get the camper back from the facelift.  We can't wait!  I am a bit of a dutch oven buff, and am anxious to get back in the dutch oven game.

My husband and I are also new to the pup world. We are in Austin and hoped to take the new pup to McKinny Falls for her maiden trip, full. So took Bastrop State Park, but the weather has now driven me back into the safety of our house.

We are going to take our 5 yo grandson with us and go tomorrow after the threat of storm is past.

I am excited and frightened at the same time. I have never towed, except from the store where we bought the pup to the storage site, so this will be a total experiment, from towing to parking.

Just wanted to say hello and let you guys know, there are other Texas folks around.

Hello Buffalosoldier, we are new to camping also sorry, I cannot help you with your problem.  I just wanted to say hello and good luck.  We only been out twice in our camper but I have scheduled two more for the month of May.

Dunnfamily4

I have seen postings on just this same problem on the general thread and the mr. fix-it thread.  I posted a problem I was having and received immediate responses in minutes and all were very good for resolving the issue.  I would suggest you try that thread since there are some guys that respond to those threads and really know what they are talking about (been there/done that).  And more importantly, know how to do it with spending a fortune at the dealerships.  Good luck and have fun.

HOORAY!!

We have folks here!

Hello to all.

Well>> we "upgraded" from our "teenie weenie" 1982 Coleman "Redwood" to a "new" 1997 JAYCO Eagle 12 UDK which has much more room & comfort!

How is everyone doing?

If interested>> in Willis there is a real nice campground & resort on Lake Conroe offering a "FREE" camping weekend (which will be doing June 1-4 2007), I have information to a GREAT Discount camping club which gives you 50% off the regular camground prices (Passportamerica.com).

We try to camp no further than 3-4 hours drive of the surrounding area from which we live. (W Houston/Katy area), Coleta Reservoir & Park in Goliad/Victoria TX is real nice but we usually try and stay at regular private campgrounds VS a "public campgrounds" the amenities are usually better (for the kids), there's always a swimming pool and more so we prefer "private campgrounds" again see PassportAmerica.com.

June 1-4 07 will be at 1000trails.com campgrounds in Willis TX located on Lake Conroe using our "free" weekend. Plus the Jayco dealer in Houston recommended a person who does "canvas" repair but he lives in Willis. My son, a 8 year old on the 1st night we brought the popup home "pulled" a zipper off track on an interior storm screen. So needless to say that's a $150 repair bill BUT I needed a couple "minor" things done to the canvas so while its off may as well get them done.

So where does everyone usually camp? Anyone from the W Houston/Katy area?

My family consists of myself (age 52), Wife (same age) 3 girls 17, 18 & 24, a son 8 years old, 2 "foster kids" ages 2 1/2 & 11 months (The older girls don't camp anymore, its a girl thing).

So let's all meet one day and have a heck of a BBQ!!

Larry

Hello Larry, we live in Houston, just off Rankin Road and TC Jester.  We are new to popups and camping.  Last summer, we bought a new tent and camped for the first time.  It rained and we got soaked so, we upgraded to the popup.  We 'll been out in the popup 3 times.  We love to fish so we wanted to be able to spend the time on the water and be fairly comfortable.  Our children are all grown however; we have grandchildren that we want to introduce to camping.
