Thanks Ed....that's what I was afraid of.

Do you know how many LEDs your lantern has?

Is this the one that you have?

We haven't bought a LED lantern but we did buy some LED "puck" lights at Costco.  They are really cool.  Just set them anywhere you need a light.   The kids think they are neat.

They do make some bright LED's obviously they are more money, but they should advertise their brightness in lumens or candlepower or however they do it nowadays. They use very little power, but for me the light they give off is kinda eerie.

They look sort of like the type you can buy at Dollarama in Canada, and those ones are terrible for a light source.

I have one that has 9 LED's in it and is dimmable. I bought it last year and have not used it very much. It makes enough light to use to make a trip to the outhouse but would not be the best to read a book by. I only paid $9.00 for it on sale though.

I have always used a coleman propane lantern,  i had a 2 mantle one that when i turned it all the way up sounded like a freight train and lit up the campsite like it was daytime!   i use a single mantle now, and it is just fine, i light it and forget it, no batteries to worry about and it even throws off some heat on those chilly nights sitting outside before you start the campfire

We just got back from camping up at Hobson Beach, all of our battery poered laterns pooped out save for the LED one, which is a pile (one of those 21 LED jobs, but there seems to be a problem with the wiring.   Not all of the leds light up and if you hit the latern they all go out.  I haven't had time to take it apart, but it only cost me $9.00 on sale at Sportsmart.

We went to Walmart and pickup a Garrity 4 LED model.  Quick check in a dark bedroom it seems to put out a fair amount of light.  We are only going to use it inside th PU.  We have good old coleman propane laterns for the campsite.

Here is the one we got for about $14.00 @ Walmart:

We just bought a 10 LED model for $16 at WalMart recently.  I don't remember the brand, but would suspect it's not a Coleman.  It has a rechargable battery using either 12v or 110v.  Sorry, it doesn't have a compass in the top, as in Wavery's ebay model.  It puts out a fair amount of light.  We also have a couple of D cell flourescent lanterns that work quite nicely.  Using all of them, we can light the inside of our camper quite well without using any of our on-board camper lights, great for dry camping.  We're satisfied with the LED lantern, at any rate.

We have one like this
aimable lamp with 2 settings. It's more directional than the typical lantern.
It wont light up an entire campsite, which we like...aim it where you need it.

Oh, and you can get it at Kmart for $10, not the overpriced $30 that site wants.
