Hello, I'm new to the popup camper world. I am wondering what anyone - experienced to novice popup camper users - thinks about having a rotating popup camper on a flatbed trailer? I know Fleetwood has the Scorpion which just folds out to the sides, but what about a model that sits on the trailer with its long side in line with the trailer edges during transport, but then can rotate so the long side is perpendicular? This would allow for more living space, and still leave room for carrying ATV's, etc. on the trailer bed.  Thoughts?

I'm having a hard time picturing this.......what size PU? What length trailer?

Are you talking about removing the axle and trailer tongue and mounting it on a rotating platform?

Here's a link to a video of the product: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2573277857571353912

I'm not sure what PU means (like I said, very new to this)- can you define that?

Certainly looks doable but I think that I would prefer a toy-hauler myself.

It would be important to support the outer corners of the PU (Pop-up camper) to the ground and also stabilize the trailer bed so that there is no flexibility.

It wouldn't be hard to do. You could put a 12' PU on a 30' trailer and have about 15' of trailer for toys. Clever idea but the trailer would be very hard to balance, for towing.

Seems awful high off the ground for me, plus I don't have an ATV or anything big like that to bring with me when we camp. My .02.:)

Xtreme 4x4 on SpikeTV put a Scorpion on a 5th wheel trailer they built.  Still a small PUP, but plenty of space for hauling a full size vehicle behind the PUP.

If you are looking for more living space, why would you need to rotate the trailer at all?  Once you unload the toys you could open the PUP and take up the whole trailer if you needed to.  You wouldn't need the space again until you were ready to load the toys on again.  At that point, presumably the PUP would be closed and no longer taking up space.

Maybe I'm just not understanding your premise.
