Can I fill the holding tank with pop up down and be filling the water tank? Or does the water heater fill after we turn the pump on for water at sink inside? We are going to S.P. this weekend and no water hook up. Or can I attach our hose (here at home) to city hook up and fill water heater?

If the water heater has no water in it, that means that it is full of air. In order to fill the water heater, you must remove the air. You do that by turning on the faucet (hot water) in the galley. As the pump runs, yo will hear air escaping from the faucet as the water heater tank fills with water. When the water heater is full of water, water will come out of the faucet. :book:  :o  :morning:

We usually bring a little extra water to make up for what goes into the water heater.

We don't drain the water heater, so it's full. I have a tank full of water for this weekend (dry Camping for a Boy Scout event) and did it with the top down.Moose

I am able to use the outside shower faucet to fill my HWT. I hook up the house water hose to my water connection and turn on the water. I then turn on my hot water handle and wait a few minutes until water starts coming out steadily. Now the water heater is full. If I want to fill the water tank, I simply move the water hose over to the tank fill port and fill up the water tank. But I usually don't fill my water tank before leaving. I usually fill it up at the CG or close to it.

I fill the water heater and water tank at the campground when I am popped down.  I connect the hose to the city water hook up to fill the water heater.  Make sure your water is turned off inside the camper, or you will end up with a very wet camper.  Don't ask how I know.:o   Then I open the hot water faucet on my outside shower (if you don't have an outside shower you can also open the over pressure valve on the water heater to allow the trapped air to escape).  I put the hose in the fresh water holding tank to fill it.:)

This is exactly how we do it .We also never drink the water out of the camper. We bring bottled water as well as juices and sodas etc. This will prolong the water for doing dishes or what have you.
