As you all know, we miss a lot of camping because of our kids' sports.  David is finally back in the water and getting his gills back.

Emily played her regular rec league softball with our city that she's played since she was 5, and she also played for her school team.  The school team went undefeated and we go into playoffs and championship play next week.  Emily wasn't expected to pitch, but the two more senior pitchers were both injured at the same time, and Em ended up pitching about half the games.  She did really, really well and batted in the #4 position all season.

In our rec league, Emily has been elected to the Gold All Star team this year.  She has been an All Star for the past four years, but always on the Silver team.  She was selected as a first round pick, which is a pretty big deal.  So we will continue to be busy, hopefully getting to visit Brian's beautiful (?) city in the desert to play in the state tournament again in July.  Emily's worked very hard and earned this honor.  We're very proud of her.

Sure!  Although I have to warn you, two years ago when we were there playing, I missed the entire opening ceremonies because my blood sugar dropped so low because of the heat that I came real close to hitting the pavement.  David had to babysit me at the hotel while I slept it off and Paul and Emily got to go.  It's one hot #*% in Palmdale in July!!!

You'll have to let us know when the tournament is.  We'd host a little get-together.

Whoo Hooo party at Brian's  :-()

Now go Emily...win win win :D

July 6-8.  Now they have to place in the top four at the district tournament to get there.

Okay, more bragging.

Emily's league team took first place. Then we went to playoffs with the top four teams.  We beat 4th place Tuesday, and tonight we play the second place team for the championship.  Worst we can do is end up second.  Em's never been on a team that's gone higher than 5th place, so this is exciting.

Emily's school team is undefeated.  We play for the championship for that team this afternoon (we've been doing a lot of double games lately).  Unfortunately she has to leave that game early to get to her league game, so we won't be there to celebrate with the team.

So if all goes well, Emily could end up with two first place finishes!!

We're not there yet.  Emily is only in 7th grade.  This is fast pitch for the Christian Schools League.  Two other schools besides hers are pretty competitive.  We went 6-0 for season, another was 5-1 and the other was 4-2.

So the final result -- Emily had an awesome day yesterday.  She played for school for the first three innings, and then we had to leave for her league game at 6:00.   They were winning 5-0 when we left.  Em drove in two of those five runs with a double in the first inning, and then she was brought in also.  The final score was 7-0, so her school team took first place!

We got back to our league field and started that game at 7:00.  It was an awesome, hard-fought game.  Em got a double, a triple and a walk, and pitched four innings (12 outs per pitcher is all they can pitch a game).  The final score was 6-5, and we took first place in our league!

She's really sore today.  She slid into home hard yesterday and tore her slider shorts, plus a little skin, and her ankle is killing her.  But she's on "cloud 88" as she put it (her league number).  Now she gets to rest for one day, and All Star practice begins bright and early Saturday morning.

Dee4j

WHOOO HOOOO way to go Emily!!!!!!!

Okay --time to update my bragging!

Emily's All Star team won the La Mirada tournament, Mirada Madness, going undefeated and mercying a couple teams.  She pitched a good portion of the games.  Her bat was dead, but her pitching more than made up for it.  Oh, and the coach she played one season for years ago on a semi-travel team who didn't like her at all -- he came up and complimented her on her pitching, so now she's all hot to go to his HS and play instead of where David goes.  Grrrr.

Last wekeend we played at the La Habra Field of Dreams tournament, where she pithced 3 1/2 games.  We did it again -- won the tournament, going undefeated.

Man, we've got a great team!   Brian, looks like I'll be up there in July!  This team has what it takes to go all the way.  :-()

Check out www.eteamz.com/lmgsa, click on All Stars, scroll down to 12U and see our team with their big 1st place trophies!  Awesome!!!

Update on my bragging --

Emily's team took second at the Cerritos tournament, and in Simi Valley we were two games from championship when we got knocked out.  The team we lost two has either taken 1st or 2nd at nationals the last three seasons.

Last weekend was our district tournament.  There are eight districts in California, and the top four winners of each district go to state.

Emily's team went undefeated, taking first place!  Emily pitched so well and the whole team played great!  Emily's right wrist and bicep are sore today from giving it all she has on the mound.

As a whole, all of La Mirada did well.  Our 8U, 10U and 12U division took first place, and our 14U took third.  All division have a berth at state.  This is a first for as long as anyone can remember.

So we are off to Lancaster July 6-8 for the state tournament.  If any of you do gather at Brian's (any excuse for a party!) I don't know if we'll be able to really visit too much because I have no idea what our game schedule will be.  We're very excited!

UPDATE   UPDATE    UPDATE  UPDATE   UPDATE   UPDATE  UPDATE

This weekend (July 6-8) was the State Championships in Lancaster, in Brian's neck o' the woods.  And a hot neck o' the woods it was!

Emily's team started off with two great wins on Friday.  We played at 3:00 PM Saturday, and had our first loss (Unforunately Brian and Kristy got to watch a losing game for us!  But thanks for coming anyway.)  After that game we had to go right over to another field for another game, because now we were in the "loser's bracket."  We beat that team 11-0.  We had one game break to feed the kids, and played our next game against the team we beat in our first game, so we beat them again!  We got back to the hotel from the field about 10:30 PM, then were back at the field at 6:45 AM for an 8:00 AM game against So. Huntington Beach.  This team has always given us fits!!!! There is a long history of losses against them.  And we continued that tradition, losing 3-1, which ended the tournament for us (two game elimination).

The last game Emily took a hard shot to her upper thigh and we weren't sure how hurt she was.  She has quite a big bruise now -- I'm waiting for the stitch marks from the ball to appear.  But she pulled herself together, continued pitching, and struck the next girl out.  That's my girl!!!

The good news is we placed high enough that we have a berth at the National tournament.  Out of 24 teams, we placed somewhere between 4th-6th place (they have to tally the runs for and against still to determine it).  So we're heading to Las Cruces, New Mexico to face teams from all over the United States! :-() :-() :-() :# :# :#
