We went to Calico last weekend and noticed that they have halloween festivities going on in October. This sounded interesting and thought that maybe this location could be considered for next years; rally. I know it's a bit of a drive but it might be worth it. The KOA that we stayed at is about 3 miles from Calico but they have a campgroud right outside ghost town. What I understand is that if you stay at the Calico Campground, you have unlimited acess to the town.

I know this is a far fetched suggestion but I thought I'd throw it out anyway.

the town of Calico or the Koa?? I know moose has been out there a lot...anyplace is worth checking out.

I believe it's Calico Ghost Town that has the festivities.  We were at Calico on Mother's Day weekend and they had a Blue Grass Festival that weekend.  We had the KOA's local advertisement newspaper that showed that the Ghost Town was having Halloween Festivities in Oct.  If there is actual interest in this, I can check things out and get more specifics.

Wev'e been to the town of Calico, and never saw a campground and  I never knew there was a KOA out there also.  Its pretty desolate there and doesn't the winds get bad in the fall?  But wer'e always game for new adventures.  We are talking about Halloween 08 right...We are still going to Santa Paula in 07.

some place I have wanted to go.  Don't know about he Campground there or the weather that time of year, at least it won;t be hot.  And its a pretty far drive I believe...

worth looking into though...

Yes it would be in '08. I have to see how long the drive is..Kevin's schedule will now dictate how far I go...

Kim why don't you check it out the full HU's A1-20 look cool some campgrounds accept reservations 2 yrs in advance.  I looked at the calico website and they have lots of planned activites, not sure if it will add up to a small fortune if we have to pay for each activity ..definately worth checking out, just not sure about the distance

There are 2 campgrounds.

#2 http://www.calicotown.com/campsites/2/

I just called there and we could make reservations for Halloween '08 in the same day of the month that we want to reserve in July '07. In other-words, if we want to reserve the evening of Oct 30 for 2 nights, we would have to make reservations on July 30.

Dee, looks like about 160 miles +/- for you.

That would be a good drive for us.  It would take a couple of hours but the traffic isn't that bad.  For you Southern folks, I don't have to tell you what the 15 North is like on a Friay afternoon!  DOH !!!!  :yikes:

It's just a hop, skip and jump from CJPoppin.

I just talked to someone at Calico reservations and here's the scoop.  We have to make reservations 90 days before event, which means we may need several people calling for reservations that morning.  She says reservations open up at 8AM and the phone lines go CRAZY.

The cost for hookups are $138/site (up to 6 people) for 2 nites of camping, admission to ghost town, mystery shack and mine.  So I believe, everyone upto 6 people can get into the festivities with no additional charge.
Maybe we can keep this in mind for next year and see what happens.  If we decide to go here, I'll give wagonmastering another whirl.

That's different than what they told me. She told me that they will take reservations 2 years in advance except for special events. They were 18 months, to-the-day. She even told me to call at 8:AM on July 30th for reservations for Oct 30th, 2008. Maybe she was confused. :eyecrazy:

you may want to reconfirm that..most places take reservations 2 yrs in advance
are you sure she wasn't talking about payment in full 90 days prior??

does everyone pay that price weather you hve 6 people or 4 people??

if so... someone is smoking crack... for the price they quoted you it's 2 nites of camping $44 ($22/night) and they are charging for 6 ADULTS at $15. Kids are only $8 so a family of 4 (2A 2C) should only be..... $90.00
