I talked to my contact at the KOA and evidently the price he gave me wasn't his best price/group rate. He is giving everyone the KOA card price (10% discount) which is his best price.

$64.80/2 nites - Full Hookups
$62.10/2 nites - No Sewer

We can use the TV room for our potlucks if we'd like.

THE RALLY WOULD BE OCT 24-26, 2008

I had a bright idea. We can reserve our 20+ sites at the KOA to be safe and if everyone wants to stay at the Calico campground, we can try and get reservations there also. (The girl at Calico seemed to think if I called at 8AM on reservation day that it may be possible.) If we can get our group into Calico, we will then cancel our KOA reservations but if we can't get the reservations then we still have a place to stay.

Please keep in mind when deciding which campground is your #1 choice that the Calico campground is a much tighter fit than the KOA and possibly not as safe for the kids to play. On the other hand, Calico camping comes with town admission for the family, located walking distance to the town and camping next to the cemetery.

Why would it be, "possibly not as safe for the kids to play"?

Just turn 'em loose in the cemetery :-()

The Calico campground has narrow roads and the campground is compacted.  The sites didn't look very spacious and for those of us with kids, we'd have to  watch our kids more carefully.

I'm up for either campgrounds.  I like that the Calico campground is close to the festivities but I like the roominess (sp) of the KOA.

As for the cemetery, my kids enjoyed walking through it and were fascinated that people were buried there.  The cemetery is still active (so to speak) because people are still being buried there.  I believe the most recent was in 2005.  Most of the head stones are weather beaten and not readable and the newer stones are made from stone.  The Calico cemetery isn't a large area but it's a neat place to visit (during the day).

Kim for the price difference we'll take full hook ups......The Calico campground has small spaces and not much room for kids to play also as I remember the road is a one way in and out which can be busy....We stayed there for the Civil War Days and really the campground part was pretty quiet but I think the Halloween function will be much more active and will have lots more kids... and it's not near the cemetery thats down the road from the full hook up sites. If we could get our group in the full hook up sites we would pretty much fill up the place that would be pretty cool and we'd get the price break getting into Calico. I just don't want to camp in the over flow part that's the dirt parking lot next to the cemetery out in the open with no wind protection at all....I have some pictures of the place from when we camped there with Moose last year.....I'll try to get them posted....Carol

just by looking at the campsite map

http://www.calicotown.com/campsites/1/

Calico looks like A1-A20 are full HU/ they look like they are in the back away from stuff...

it looks like it has it's own street for the kids to ride in a circle
and they only ones that should be driving on that road are those in that section

WOW!!!! :yikes:

Put us down for "FULL HOOK-UPS" Please....otherwise, we might as well be in a different CG :(

I'll figure out something to do with that sewer line :sombraro: .

BootheBunch

LOOK AT ALL THAT DIRT!!

cjpoppin

Hahaaaaaaaa   Those pics make it look pretty bad.......It's really not that bad but you can see by the pic's that the full hook up sites are in a canyon so it's protected somewhat from the wind......As far as the KOA remember this will be Oct. and those mature trees will most likely have lost their leaves.....The kids will love Calico and the men will like the "Cat House"?????   Whoops forgot it's not open anymore......Sorry, guys.......We'll have to settle for the Haunted Mine ...............Carol
