Skylight Modification

I thought I would post an idea for those of you looking for a different type of modification.  I am currently camping next to a guy that put skylights in his pop-up.  I was so interest, I asked if I could see them from the inside.

To get an idea of size, he has a 10 foot box.  He put in 2 skylights.  The skylights take up a little for than 50% of the roof.  They are slightly bubbled outward and are tinted.  He has it set up so he can close the skylights with slide doors from inside the roof of the camper.

The skylight is made of aluminum and is braced from the inside much like you brace for an AC unit.  He says the skylights are actually very lightweight as the outside window part is made of a plexiglass material.

I asked if he ever had trouble with them leaking, he said no.  He owns a business that installs windows so he said he sealed them very well.  I asked if he had problems with the roof shifting in shape because of removing so much of the roofing material for lightweight items, he said no it hasn't been a problem with the extra bracing.  He has had them for 3 years now.  He said he gets a lot of people asking to see them.

I soooo wanted to take pictures, it was pretty nice looking from the inside.   He said he saw a pop-up with them a couple years ago and liked it so much he did it to his.

So if you are looking for something different, here's an idea for you.
