Black Hills Canpgrounds

Hi to all from North of the Border
My question is simple, My wife and 2 girls are headed to the Black Hills in July and was wondering if anyone has spent any time at No Name City Park and Campground? The price per night and options they have seem decent. The other option is the KOA'S in Rushmore or Rapid City. But cost twice as much.

If you want to stay in the Black Hills you may be better off at Custer State park or the Rafter J. I looked at the No Name Campground and its in Sturgis. You will be there pretty close to bike week so there will be alot of bikers there starting the middle of July. Custer State park is much closer the to the usual tourist sites and it will be much quieter. Take a look at the links below.

Depending on the sort of camping you like, I would also urge you to consider Custer State Park. In my opinion, this park is one of the great undiscovered secrets of western USA camping. I've posted about this park before. I think it is far and away the best state park I've ever experienced.

Haven't been there is many many years but it was one of the nicest camp grounds Ive stayed it and close to a lot of places to see.

We went to the Black Hills two years ago and wanted to stay at Custer but it was full the week we wanted. Stayed at the KOA outside of Rushmore and it was a nice park. Our grandchildren loved he pool and the waterslide.
Hope you have better luck at Custer.

Hope it's not to late, but I just saw your post.   We have stayed in Hill City, SD at the Horse Theif Campground:  //www.horsethief.com twice and really liked it.  It's a family owned business and not as crowded as the other places.  Do a google search for campgrounds in SD and you will see others.   This was great because it was a central point to go to Custer, Mt. Rushmoore and only an day trip to Rapid City.   It's very close to Hill City and they have a decent grocery store.

I'll also put in a plug for Custer.  We camped there a couple of years ago at Stockade Lake and loved it.  We looked at the other campgrounds in Custer, and they all looked wonderful.  The only drawback (not to me, but maybe to others) is that I don't believe any of the campsites in Custer have hookups.  Correct me if I'm wrong on that one.  We're strictly dry campers, so that didn't matter at all to us.

We just spent three nights at Rafter J Bar Ranch.  I highly recommend it.  The layout of the campground is great.  We stayed in the Ranch section which had a more secluded feel and your were not on top of your neighbor.  If you do not mind smaller showers you will love this place.
