We love Bass Pro Shops and Cabella's but a good place to get good prices on camping gear would be local garage sales.  Most items are half of what you would pay in a store and people buy them and never use them so most are in great shape.

We've had good luck with sleeping bags, blankets, cooking utensils. etc at the Salvation Army Family Thrift Store.  Some of the stuff looked like it had never been used.  They get alot of camping/sporting goods too.
