Quote from: oreo57Just came across this thread yesterday, weve had site 21 reserved since May and I see this morning on inciweb.org that the H.S. is being used as a evacuation center, lets hope they it get under control.

Mike

and you thought you were going to have a nice quite weekend...and now there is 11 of us camping next to you :J

well hopefully we are all going and if we do, stop by and introduce yourself, (or you may have everyone invading your space  :eyecrazy: )we also do a potluck Sat morn & Sat nite..bring some grub and join us..

by looking at the regional map on the Dogwood link, on page one, it looks like green valley lake is about 10 miles away..which to me is too dang close..

let's hope they get it under control and we can camp

Qoute JimQ: I'm guessing that complete campfire and charcoal restrictions will be in place for next weekend. Meaning no dutch oven cooking.

good thing I have generator & a Microwave!!!  :-()

Here's the real scoop on the fire:
http://www.inciweb.org/incident/989/
----------------copy & paste from article--------------

The Butler 2 Fire was reported at 1:21 pm on Friday northwest of Big Bear Lake. The fire is currently 15, 433 acres and 12% contained. Highway 18 is closed from Running Springs east to Big Bear Dam. Drivers may not access Big Bear from Hwy 18 or from Hwy 330 in San Bernardino, but Hwy 18 is open from Apple Valley (the high desert). Drivers may also access Big Bear via Hwy 38 from I-10 in Redlands.

Manadatory Evacuations for Fawnskin-- Mandatory evacuations remain in effect for the Fawnskin area from the Big Bear Dam to The Discovery Center north of Hwy 38. An evacuation center has been setup at the Big Bear High School in Sugarloaf.
Voluntary Evacuations are in effect for the Green Valley Lake area-- The mandatory evacuation order for the entire community from Hwy 18 as well as campgrounds from Green Valley Lake RD has been downgraded to a voluntary evacuation status. Campgrounds include--Greeen Valley, Crab Flats, Tent Peg, and Fisherman's.
....
Outlook:
Planned Actions Continue to provide structure protection. Continue to construct direct and indirect line.

Projected Movement North and East (away from Dogwood CG)
----------------
Rim of the World High School (right next to Dogwood CG) is the voluntary evacuation center for Eastern Running Springs. No one has used that center as of today.

Thanks for the heads up :! , But Toni (DW) and I think it would be great to meet the SCCampers group. The fire is moving NE towards Lucerne Valley and the Mandatory evac. has been downgraded to Voluntary and they moved the evac. center from the HS to the Jerry Lewis Center in Highlands but that doesnt mean everythings OK just a smidgion better in that area. On another note I noticed some of your group is in 15 and 17, which on that outter loop and has a very step downgrade from the road, Our trip there in march we had 17 and with the pup had to use a jack from our truck to get the toung about 7" from the ground and the 30ft rig next to us had 4x8's stacked under his rears to level it...just a heads up. As far as the potluck Sat. night is there a list of whos bringing what or just a true potluck.

Thanks, Mike and Toni

It's just a potluck ..sometimes we like to post what we are brining...if you read back a couple of pages you may find what some are bringing

I'm bringing BBQ beef ribs  so whatever is fine..I am soooo ready to camp and hit some catus coolers..I just hope we can go..IMHO I don't care which way they are saying it's going..until it's more under control I won't feel comfortable

But as I said I'm not going to make any determination until at least Wednesday

maybe Surfcampers has some pull and get some real insider info on this thing.

can't wait to meet you

griffsmom

We'll be making bacon for breakfast and tri tip for dinner. Also, if we can cook with charcoal, I'll be trying a new DO dessert: black forest dump cake.

Looking forward to camping with everyone!  Mom joked--last rally, we needed our A/C; this trip, we'll probably be needing the heater!!

So far, it doesn't effect us at all. :D

Okay, anyone got any helpful info....

:p

TheViking

I just talked to a person at the CG and she said everything is business as usual. They have no restrictions, including campfires as long as the are in the rings. She said the fire is headed North-East away from the CG. That is all.

Chez Way

Hopefully the fire is under control soon!  We've been looking forward to this trip for awhile.  Haven't decided on what to bring yet for the potluck, maybe some fresh fruit for breakfast and something in the DO for dinner.

TheViking

They said it's 12% contained as of last night.

Mike & Toni,
Thanks for the heads up on site 15.  We'll bring extra planks and blocks for leveling our rig. I enjoyed the pics you posted of Dogwood and look forward to meeting you.

You all probably could have guessed that I picked the crappiest site in the place. If it's too much of a steep drop off we will 1. See if there are any other sites availabe. Or 2, Go home, grab the quads and hitthe Dez.

And by the way.  That link to the pics don't work.
