I just couldn't stand the thought of being cold & wet. I canceled. I'm sorry that I didn't think to post the spot before I canceled :( . I guess I just panicked.

If anyone is interested in the spot, you should be able to go on-line and grab spot #20. Again.....I'm sorry that I didn't post first :morning: .

I never should have written about my Antarctic experience. I probably won't sleep tonight. I hate it when that happens :banghead: . I guess it's just part of the deal.

Wayne...The weather is much warmer at Dogwood than Bigbear, When Toni and I where there in March it was 18F at night in BB and only 38f in DW. Most of the people where moving from Serrano CG to DW so there plumbing wouldnt freeze, If that dreaded white stuff comes it will be gone by morning, Besides where only at 5800 ft level. I'm really looking forward to meeting you because that book you started  a few posts back sounds AWSOME!!. Lifes adventures will make a person, No matters what evils exist.

Mike :!

Wayne , I noticed your site had no elec., If it will help I'll bring my Yamaha 2400is so you have juice?? let me know.

I can't believe this...last time I checked this thread we were worried about the fire now we are looking at a potential snow storm?  Let's go camping!

P.S.  I'm making DO Hungarian Goulash for potluck dinner...

Quote from: waveryHMMMMMMMM!!!! I can't see this but this is what the National Weather Service is saying:

http://www.weather.com/weather/newscenter/alerts/92382?alertId=617138
A STRONG STORM FOR SEPTEMBER MAY MOVE THROUGH SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA LATE THURSDAY THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY. THIS STORM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE WEATHER VERY RARELY SEEN IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA IN SEPTEMBER. THIS COULD BE THE STRONGEST MID LATITUDE SEPTEMBER STORM FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA IN AROUND 20 YEARS. SEPTEMBER STORMS WITH SOME SIMILARITY TO THIS STORM OCCURRED IN 1986 AND IN 1963.

THIS STORM IS CURRENTLY DEVELOPING OVER SOUTHWESTERN BRITISH COLUMBIA AND WILL MOVE QUICKLY SOUTHWARD ALONG THE WEST COAST TO NEAR THE BAY AREA BY WEDNESDAY EVENING...THEN WILL MOVE MORE SLOWLY SOUTHWARD ALONG THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COAST TO NEAR POINT CONCEPTION BY EARLY THURSDAY EVENING. MOVEMENT THEN WILL BE SLOWLY EASTWARD ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY. THERE ARE STILL SOME DIFFERENCES IN THE TRACK FORECAST AND TIMING FOR THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY AND ESPECIALLY FOR THE POTENTIAL IMPACTS TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.

STRONG WINDS WILL DEVELOP IN ADVANCE OF THIS STORM IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY. THIS STORM SHOULD BRING MUCH COOLER TEMPERATURES FOR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WITH COOLEST TEMPERATURES FRIDAY. DEPENDING UPON THE EVENTUAL TRACK AND TIMING OF THIS STORM... THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR LOCALLY HEAVY PRECIPITATION AT TIMES FROM LATE THURSDAY THROUGH LATE FRIDAY. THIS STORM WILL BE QUITE COLD FOR SEPTEMBER WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF THUNDERSTORMS AND EVEN FOR SNOWFALL IN THE MOUNTAINS ABOVE 6000 FEET. THERE IS ALSO THE POSSIBILITY OF WATERSPOUTS OVER THE COASTAL WATERS AND TORNADOES OVER ADJACENT LAND AREAS.

COOL!  Maybe soccer will get cancelled this weekend!!!

BTW--My team is 2-0 right now!  My Pink Hearts ROCK!  (Well, as well as 5 and 6 year olds can).

I think this will be a very interesting weekend. We have rain, possible snow, cold temps, Possible Bears as already discussed, A fire, which will potentially drive more wildlife into our area, sounds like a party to me!

I think a little rain Friday night will be great.  It will keep the dust down but be all gone for Saturday!  It might even help with the fire.

TheViking

I'm still trying figure out how I'm going to get there.

We're leaving the canoe at home and bringing the snowboard.:p

TheViking

The only question I have is that I have looked at quite a few different Weather sites and have found that we will have lows in the mid 40's.  Now I spent the better part of 32 years of my life living in Arizona so maybe I'm mis-informed, but doesn't the temps need to be below freezing to create snow?  I've been under the impression that snow is basically frozen water.

JimQPublic

Sometimes weather forcasts do not come true.  Snow can fall when the air is in the 40's.  The clouds are much colder.  It generally melts before or after reaching the ground.

Ok, I got it.  However, the part about snow melting before or after reaching the ground is kind of a no brainer.   Even being from Az I would figure that it would melt eventually after it hits the ground.

This will be a short event IMO. The problem that I have is getting up there at 9:PM and (possibly) having to set-up in the rain.

Carolyn couldn't get off early and we wouldn't be able to leave until 6:30. Normally, that wouldn't bother me but I am just not interested in doing it in the wind & rain.

Judging by this picture, there could be some pretty strong wind on the front edge of this small front, especially when it hits the mountains. That sharp line shows a dramatic change in temperature which will cause the wind. However, this will probably take place tomorrow. I think this may well be over by Friday night because it is moving pretty fast. I'm just not willing to chance it. I have a very bad right arm at the moment (nerve damage) and probably should have canceled for that reason alone.

I'm sure you will all have a great weekend.

We are planning to leave S.D. early a.m. because we took the day off....but now I a worried about the winds and pulling the trailer up the mountain.  I am also concerned with flash floods and mud run off.  We have been in one at a mountain campground and it wasn't pretty.  After we get there it rain, snow and blow..I don't care.... We thought we might want to stay until Monday...weather is forecaste to be sunny Sunday and Monday.  Please let me know if you plan on cancelling this trip..I don't want to be the only crazy camper out there!
