Thanks Beerlift for posting the pics ... certainly a "sobering" reflection!

There are a lot of pine trees here in my neck of the woods and they say the pines are notorious for exploding when hit by lightning ... maybe from all that pine sap getting heated to a gazillion degrees(?)

Thanks for sharing the oics. They're really cool.

They say that trees attract lightening because of the static electricity that they build up from blowing in a breeze. That's why you never stand next to a tree in a storm. The first 20-50' around the lightening strike may attract feeders (separate small strikes) from the lightening bolt.
