This Slide Show shows some WCCO TV viewer's photos of the hail storm that came through here Monday night.  We were driving home from DD#1's new house in St Paul when it struck with a vengance.  We sat on the side of the road, trying to avoid the windows for about 20 very noisy, and at times rather frightening, minutes.  As you look at the photos, nothe that "Ham Lake" is where we live, and "Blaine" is where we were stopped.

We got off easy.  The only damage we sustained were broken branches, and the tabs on PJay's dutch oven table, which was blown over) were bent.  I thought both cars would be totalled, but I could not find a ding on either one.

One of the things that is not clear from any of these photos is that not only was there a two inch accumulation of hail, but in places the wind blew so hard the hail was in small drifts.

That's nuts.  If you got hit by one of those hail balls you'd be hurt for sure.  Glad to hear your family and your property are safe!

PJay found a single dent in the roof of the Van.  Neither I nor DS found anything on our cars.  I'm really surprised.  There was hardly a square foot of road that didn't have a hailstone at least golf-ball sized.  There was a constant barage of "pings" from the pea-sized hail, maybe once a second there would be a "bang" from a larger piece, and then several times a minute a real "BANG!" that would make your ears ring.

I kept thinking "this is what insurance is for...this is what insurance is for..." but we won't even be filing a claim.  We have plenty of neighbors who are.
