We began popup camping in 2003 with our Coleman Santa Fe.  The kids were small (3 yrs and 18 Mo.)  By Jan 2005 we decided that the Santa Fe was way too small and moved up the the new highlander series, 2005 Niagara.  We loved the openness of the popup's and the features in the Niagara were great (CP, shower, oven, micro). but on our longer trips we found out we wanted to ba able to access the trailer, potty use for the kids and refrigerator for lunches and snacks.

We moved to a HTT in Jan 2007.  We spend a long time shopping, looking at all kinds floor plans and options.  We did not consider a TT because the HTT gave us flexability.  Shorter towing size, shorter set up times over a popup, when fully opened th HTT has air flow, windows and a camping feel.

HTT's are great, we can do overnighter's w/o having to unhitch, has all the features of a big TT, room to grow into asw the kids get bigger.

Downside: Harder to store, ours is in a storage facility ($$ per month). A bit more difficult to pull based on the high profile (although DW pulled it several times on our recent trip to Yosemitie:) :eyecrazy:

We are glad to have changed over to a HTT, but someday when the kids no longer come along and it's just DW and I, I could see us in a nice POPUP again.

Also with the heavier weight and large profile, the tow vehicle is being upgaraded now, moving from a 4.6L F-150 to a 5.4L.
