I have a 2003 Mazda MPV minivan that I want to hook-up a tow package to.  I have a 2002 Starcraft.  I believe the tow weight is around 2700lbs.  I'm told I can get away with towing around 3000lbs with the minvan.  Any comments on this?

Is your Starcraft 2700# gross or dry weight?

Better double check that tow rating. According to Trailer Life Tow Ratings, the van is not listed, and that means that its rating is probably less than 2000#.

Hi, we have a 2004 MPV and have the tow package which allows us to tow a rated  MAXIMUM of 3000 lbs. (checked with the Mazda dealer and also on their website, without the tow package the MPV is rated for only 2000 lbs.).  We currently have a 2006 Fleetwood Cheyenne which weighs 2090 lbs dry and then when we have all loaded up in both the van with people, food, water, clothing and extras and the pup with the stuff that is going to stay in the pup (dishes etc.), it is easily around the 3000 lb. mark and it tows here in mountainous BC with no problem, but I would not want to push it.  I think IF the 2700 lbs. is your dry weight then you will not have a lot of leeway when it comes to loading up.  My thought is the Starcraft is too heavy.
