I recently purchased a 2007 Toyota Tacoma V6 with the tow package (transmission/oil cooler, etc.) and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how large of a towable trailer I can pull, safely. Any Tacoma owners out there who can advise? Thanks.

If you are talking a pop-up, you can tow pretty much anything.  Probably most Hybrids as well.

I also have a 2007 Tacoma, V6 4.0 liter, 4x4.

The tow rating is 6500# (with tow package). I have a Fleetwood E3, rated at 4400# loaded and just under 3000# empty. I load the deck with coolers, tools, chairs, and more. I usually have the wife and 2 kids inside and a dog in the back. I've towed both with the water tank full and empty.

Overall, the E3 pulls easily. I typically drive without overdrive on (4th gear) so the power is there when I need it. I have only had to downshift when going over the steeper mountain passes. I also pull a quad trailer that when loaded is about 2000#. I use just the ball hook-up and it tows easily without any rear end sag. The trailer is heavier and sags the rear end so I use a weight distribution hitch and it makes all the difference in the world. The rear end is level with the trailer and it tows easily. I don't have a sway bar.

As I mentioned in a previous post, my only concern is the brakes. Once when descending down a long hill, they seemed to fade a bit too easily. I think you could tow even more than I am at this time, I would just make sure the breaks are up to stopping it.

I've attached a photo. Good luck.

Ah yeah...

You two have my current dream truck.....

Showoffs!  Just kidding, I love how it looks with the cap on the back.

One day....One day, just not soon enough!

I drooled and looked and drooled for about 2 years before I finally got mine. My Dodge minivan just kept running.

I gotta say I'm happy. It's been a great truck. Now I'm dreaming about that new Tundra. I could pull just about anything with that! ;)

Good luck. I'm sure it won't be long.

I love the Tacomas as well. I went with the Tundra though as the gas mileage between the Tacoma and Tundra isn't overwhelming and I wanted the extra towing power and room of the Tundra. I knew some people who bought the Tacoma and wish they had gotten the Tundra, so I went with the Tundra and love it! Actually I have both a Tundra and a Tacoma, except the latter is the camper.  ;)
