I gotta say, you are due for a break on your next outing. Hang in there blue skies are in your future. Well at least once we get past peak hurricaine season. Sounds like you made the best of things and that's the first step to enjoying camping. You have to learn to deal with lots of different situations. Look at it this way, you have one hell of a story to tell from here on.

That is a great story and it takes a heck of a sense of humor to post that here rather than just put up a front and say, "We had a great trip in our PUP."  

Man, stuff like this with the wife and kids on board is just priceless.....you couldn't sit down and make something up that was half as good.  I love the recovery from saying "sh!t."  That's classic!

Steve, thank you for sharing your adventure.  It was not fun for you guys at the time, but you will rember this trip forever!  :p

Not quite as dramatic, but the day after we got our pup, we had it open in the back yard.  We were heading out to 5PM Mass on Saturday, and decided to leave it up.  Mistake!  We got home and it was soaked due to a T-storm that popped up out of nowhere.  We learned to take it down in the rain mighty fast with the lightning crashing all around.

I know whatcha mean. We've had a drought and record setting temps. I bought a can of paint today to paint our mailbox post (HOA rules). Guess what. Been raining all day.

I thought you were going to describe an unusual camping trip.     That sounds par for the course for our family.  But, which one of the kids got bit/stung/or scraped something?  You must have left that out. :confused:

Seriously, sounds like y'all recovered well and still had a good time.  That is the way to do it!

I'm grateful to hear you all came out of the storms safely - in retrospect, it makes the story very funny!

And in the end, one of the best lessons you learned about camping is that the 'worst' trips, SPUTS, and mistakes make for some of the best shared family memories and skills learned.

I'm so sorry I don't live near you - I'd be glad to go camping with you and your family just to break your rainy spell.   It (almost never) rains when I camp, and when it does, it's usually at night (I love the sound of rain on the canvas) or at least, not long.

It reminds me of our last camping trip SPUT - We were EXPECTING the camper door to fly open - the latch broke and we duct-taped it shut.  But no, our problem was worse than that  - a flat tire.

You would think it would have been on the 35 yr old camper with the tires of uncertain age - but no - it was on the Van with fairly new tires! & it was a SPUT because i had seen that the tire was low for about a week before we left - but not that bad, and simply filled it before we left. (REALLY Stupid, because I work at the store where I bought the tires, have road hazard coverage on them, and can get them checked & filled any day while I work) I guess filling them made the leak worse - because  1  1/2 hrs  toward the campground, with a 1/2 hr to go and 9 PM at night - the tire blew (actually, it shredded)- on a Wisconsin highway with traffic going by @ 70+ MPH.  

Watching my Significant Other and Son crawl around a vehicle & between the van and camper to change a tire at night on a dark highway is NOT my idea of fun!

Luckily the state troopers came out and set their emergency lights for us, so we could change it in relative safety & get off the highway.

Hope you have Sunny camputs and no Road problems in the future!

What a terrible ordeal for you and your family to go through, but it looks like you enjoyed the rest of your camping trip.  We were camping south of you that same w/e and that thunder and lightening was loud.  I can imagine that it was very scarey for your family and the other campers there.  We were also at that same campground last month, however the weather was great.

We were at a park several years ago with that same kind of weather while inside the pup, the weather was really getting bad, when it was over, we went out and the awning was on the other side of the camper.

I guess that happens with our weather here.  Hopefully you will have better weather when you go out again.

I am glad you had a good trip, even with the added excitement.  Pack a few rain coats/ponchos and don't let the rain keep you in the PU (not during electrical storms of course).  If we don't get rain this week I will reserve a campsite for you at my local/favorite state park:D.

Thanks for the encouragement, I have "Learned"(not by choice) to make the best of any situation.  It seems that Murphy's Law has a special palce in its heart for me.  The story is one that I can honeslty say that I would have prefered to never to be able to tell.  I will beleive the blue skies when it see them.

In anticipation of future trip SPUTs, I have actually pre-thought out recovery words consisting of Son of a Witch, Duck, and BassHole (Me to DD, "Yes honey that is where a bass lives, maybe we can go fish there sometime). I will let you figure out what the expletives are.  

If anyone knows how long I can get away with these I would greatly appreciate some advice.  I know that when they are older I will have to have new strategy.
