Is anyone going to the rv show at Hershey this week?  We're going on Thursday.

Dave and I spent the entire day there yesterday looking at all the new models and talking to the manufacturers. There was so much to see!

I think the weather is supposed to cool off a bit towards the end of the week, but it was pretty hot. Wear your walking shoes and drink plenty of water!

Plan on going on Saturday.
Hope the weather holds out.  It looks like they are calling for rain in the morning.
Not going to worry about it until Friday night/Sat morn.

We have never been to this one before, we can't wait to see all of the different trailers.

If someone could give me an idea as to the set up it would be helpful.

In looking at the website it would appear that instead of the dealers having thier own "booth" it looks like the "booths" are assigned to the manufactures.  Is that the case?  'My Toys' and 'thanley' is that the case?

Thanks
Jim

Monday and Tuesday are "trade only" days. The manufacturers are there during that time. Dave and I went on Monday as "press."

The rest of the week is for the general public. At that point the manufacturers turn the exhibits over to the dealers, and some units are even available for sale. I think the Web site mentioned over 1500 units to view. Besides all the pop-ups, hybrids, travel trailers, etc., there are also vendors inside the building, such as insurance, campgrounds, generators, and of course, food and drinks.

Yes, it is all laid out by manufacturers.  Be sure to use the free tram.  It runs around the entire area and stops every few blocks.  Saves alot of foot work.  You can print out $1.00 off coupons for entry.  I also printed out a map so we know where the tram stops (and pottys) are.  We went last year and really enjoyed comparing all the different brands.  Have fun!

Having worked the Hershey RV show from the dealership side, have a few thoughts which might help.
[list=1]
  • Have a good idea of what you want to see (manufacturer, and type of RV).  Spend ten minutes after coming in figuring out where you want to look.  Plan it out.  Hershey is OVERWHELMING.
  • Dealers are pushing Class As, Bs, and Cs, and fifth wheels.  You won't see an overabundance of popups.  Most dealers don't bring them to the show, even though they are on the lot.
  • Hershey is huge and a lot of walking.  It is also expensive to eat at (I think - but my former employer didn't feed us, and we had to buy there, all show long.)
  • All Class A coaches look alike after the first dozen.
  • If you just feel like looking at everything, fine, but start at the back and work your way front.  There won't be anyone at the back of the show for the better part of the first 4 hours.  My former employer had us all located at the rear of the show - I guess those were the cheapest sites - a very critical factor for that employer.
  • If you are in the buying mode, there are deals to be made at the show, but the real deal is back at the dealership during the show.  Most dealers leave a salesman or two back at the shop, they're in competition with the guys at the show, and they WILL deal to get the sale.
  • Know your prices - not all show deals are deals.

Yes, there were many As, Bs, Cs and fifth wheels, but I was pleasantly surprised at the number of pop-ups and hybrids at the show this year.

Enjoy the show!

Certainly didn't mean to imply there weren't any - but if you have a favorite, you might want to call the dealerships participating and find out if they brought popups and/or hybrids to the show.  We had enough fun getting Class As there, and coordinating drops by the manufacturers at Hershey for our campers.

we went up on Sat.  could not have asked for better weather.  It was a little cool but better then being too hot.
We saw pop ups from Fleetwood, Jayco, Palamino, Clipper, Rockwood, Flagstaff
also Chalet and Aliner.
We all had a great time and was able to get a lot of good information from some of the manufactures representatives that were there.
