My family and I spend a lot of time in Mexico, including caming in Baja.

If you use common sense and take pains to learn some Spanish in the process, you can have a great SAFE experience. It's certainly not as gentrified as say, the Central California coast, but then again, the attitudes are better in Mexico.

100 miles south of San Diego, you can camp in places that were just like California was in 1907.

Insurance is a must, route planning important and remember, don't panic and or overreact. YOU CAN NOT GO TO JAIL IN MEXICO WITHOUT SEEING A JUDGE.

THE JUDICAL SYSTEM THERE IS COMPARABLE TO OURS.

Sure they might and do.  Just like crossing into or out of Canada.  If they never inspected PUs all the drug dealers would be filling up the dinette seats with drugs.:D
