I've decided I'm running for President...

...under the Canvas RV party.

This should be interpreted as the announcement of my candidacy.

I'm hoping to get a specific Californian for a running mate, because he might bring in some West Coast votes. (We anticipate 2-3 votes from Washington, 3-4 from Oregon, and perhaps 20 from California.  The rest of the southwest may bring another half dozen votes.)  We have not discussed this prospect with Wayne, er, the potential running mate yet.

Here's the Canvas RV party platform:
  • Allow non-hardside RV's free and equal access to Fishing Bridge Campground in Yellowstone National Park
  • Create pop-up and hybrid only sections in larger public campgrounds.
  • Create more campgrounds and expand the most popular campgrounds in National Parks and Forests
  • Reduce or eliminate extra highway tolls for folding towable RV's (folding RV's pay the same as cars without trailers)
  • Addition of all-new National Forest campgrounds that include serviced sites.  Existing NF campgrounds would not be upgraded.
  • Creation of a minimum standard for campsite size in National Parks and Forests.  This standard may include minimum vegetation levels dependent on local flora nad fauna.
  • Elimination of dump station fees for grey/gray water.
  • More flexible reservation systems for National Parks and Forests, while reserving at least 30% of all campsites for first-come, first-served campers.
  • Support for development of auto-backing trailers, where the trailer anticipates and steers itself into the campsite.
  • Creation of income tax credits for those who buy new folding towable RV's, as long as they use them at least four times a year for two years.
  • Creation of business tax credits for manufacturers who reduce actual dealer prices on towable folding RV's.
  • Creation of business tax credits for manufacturers who reduce both the dry and loaded weight of their towable folding RV's.
  • New and existing RV's over 10,000 lbs GVWR will be taxed at 40% per year.  Self-propelled RV's over 10,000 lbs GVWR will have an additional 10% annual tax.  Class-B's will be exempted if they are used to tow a folding RV under 10,000 lbs GVWR.

If you have additional platform ideas for the Canvas RV party, or would like to be a member of the cabinet, please post here.

I need immediate suggestions for a campaign manager, and would like to hear who you think should be in charge of the Canvas RV party itself.  I will not be able to continue as chairman if I am to run a presidential campaign.

Austin

DO NOT TAKE THIS POST SERIOUSLY.  With the coming period of endless campaigning, I thought I would add my two cents worth.

The campground crowding issue would disappear if all public campgrounds got a new entryway that was 7'6" wide by 6' high.  Camp sites would be re-graded to eliminate all flat spots except the driveway.  Minimum slope is 6% throughout the site.  In flat areas the campsite would be covered with large cobblestones.

Then no matter what sort of conveyance or RV you have, you would be welcome.  No discrimination against tent campers either- though the sites may be a bit tough to sleep on.

PS-

I'll have new curtains made out of canvas for the Chalet so I can join the Canvas RV party.

I actually read it all, and it makes sense.

Not so sure on your choice of running mate ;)

Don't forget to implement a Lemon Law for popups and Hybrids.
Extend the warranty to 5 years for all parts, labor and shipping, and include the second owner.

Like most political parties, the name does not accurately reflect the purpose.  The Canvas RV party intends to represent all folding towable RV's.  Within this context, "foldable" is not meant to include units with slide-outs only, but is meant to include hard roofs like those on ALiners, Chalets, Hi-Lo's, and TrailManors.  This list is not meant to be exclusive.

Also, the Canvas RV party is an equal opportunity party, not distriminating on the basis of state of residence, color of canvas, or favorite dog breed.

While not specifically alligned with the Green Party, the Canvas RV party is hoping the Green Party would put their support behind us once their candidate is mathematically eliminated.

Your suggested approach would not be looked on favorably by the Green Party because it would encourage tenters to remote camp, in conflict with the Green Party's view that the great outdoors belongs to them exclusively.

I also would have a problem with the specifics of your proposed plank.  Our tow vehicle, a Chevy Astro, is 6'6" high (including roof racks) and therefore would not be able to clear a 6' high entrance.

Ah, so sad.  The Low Profile Folding Non-Canvas RV Party accepts all.  You'll just have to park outside and push your trailer in.  Nothing personal, it's just that your TV "wouldn't feel comfortable" in the campground.  Please use the servants entrance.

The Canvas RV party accuses the so-called "Low Profile Folding Non-Canvas RV Party" of being exclusionary.  being told to "use the servants entrance" is akin to telling someone they are not wanted.  The Canvas RV party accepts folding RVs of all color, manufacturer, age, and leveler type, and will never discriminate on the basis of Tow Vehicle*.

*Unsafe, inadequate, and magenta tow vehicles excepted.

Your mobile white house office awaits your anticipated election.

Kelly

I'd like to do my part to help the Canvas RV Party and hereby nominate Wavery as AB's running mate.  Anyone second the nomination?

Actually, that won't do for the Canvas RV party, it is not a folding camper.

I don't like it because it's white.

Kelly,

I was actually thinking you could be my Press Secretary.  How good are you at lying through your teeth?

You do realize that the position you're seeking comes with a "white" house?  Are you proposing a new color scheme when you win the election?

I'm honored to even be considered for the position, AB.   I believe in each and every tenet of the party platform and would have no need to lie through my teeth while representing the RV Canvas [/B] [/SIZE] party and its first candidate for presidency.
