Well, some bad news here.  I've suddenly experienced several tears in my retina as a result of detached vitreous in my right eye.  This has all come down within the last 2 to 3 weeks.  Surgery is scheduled for this morning at 11:30, our time.  Prognosis is good, they're very confident all will go well.  Here's hoping...

I hope everything goes well for you and you're able to get back to the outdoors soon. By the way we have family in Glens Falls, is that near you? Beautiful up there.

Good luck with the surgery and hope every thing goes well.

I'll save some of fil's 40 year old brew to celebrate with you at the next rally.

PJay is extremely myopic, and has had laser surgery at least 5-6 times in more than 20 places on her retina.  In addition, about 18 years ago she had a scleral buckle installed around one eye as treatment for a detached retina.  That surgery was done on an emergency basis.  At that time, they did additional work on her retina cryogenically.

At a recent opthamologist's visit, he remarked that he had never seen a patient with such well-attached retinae (retinas?).

It's scary, especially the first time, and can be painful, but in the long rin it works, and the repairs are usually permanent.

Best of luck with your surgery.  As I am a person with severe vision problems  I understand your worries.   I hope everything goes well.

We live in Western NY, about 4.5 to 5 hours from Glens Falls.  My brother used to live there.

"Usually" is a scary word in this context.

I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words and encouragement.  I have been through cataract surgery in both eyes, and this is somewhat similar.  I'm familiar with the drill, at least.  This one's some rougher than cataract surgery, though, and my vision at this point is horrible.  I can make out light and dark and some large objects with the "fixed" eye, that's it.  But, I have that through the full field of vision where I was about 60% blind as I was being wheeled into surgery.  That 60% occured over about a 4 day span, so things were deteriorating very fast.  The Docs were very pleased with their work at my followup appointment yesterday morning and said things went about as well as they could possibly go.  Said they lasered the h*** out of it, so I should also have one of those super attached retinas.  Also had one of those buckles installed.  Supposedly, it's that gas bubble they put in there that's messing up my vision now.  It seems healing might take a while, though.

Get well soon!!! hang in there

Glad the surgery when well and I hope your vision starts reponding soon.  I'm sure it was really scary, and probably still is.  Hang in there!

Dave I am glad to hear that your surgery went well.  How is your vision progressing?:)

ScouterMom

Hope you're feeling better and things go great with your healing.  You'll be in our prayers.

Doesn't seem to be much change since surgery.  Still feeling discomfort (can't really call it pain) to about the same degree.  My eye feels achy, probably from the surgical procedures, and scratchy, probably from the stitches.  Don't want to look anywhere but straight ahead.  The hardest thing to deal with is that vision hasn't cleared at all, it's the same now as it was on Thursday.  I'm only seeing large, indistinct shapes that are magnified and offset from the left eye image.  I'm thinking of calling Docs tomorrow to make sure what I'm experiencing is normal.  Don't want to wait until Friday to have them tell me they wish I had called earlier.  Activities are still majorly curtailed.  I'm thinking of taking tomorrow off from work.  I had it in my head I'd be able to be back by tomorrow when this all started, so that'll be a huge disappointment.

Yes, make the call.
