Went on our last camping trip of the season and felt like Robin Williams in the RV movie.

First episode was trying to set the tt up.  Backed into the site okay but the wheels on the tv started to spin in the SOFT dirt.  Managed to pull out of that.

Now I had to move the tt over a bit.  Went forward and then backed up to line up with the sewer.  Well the old rear wheels just dug in.  Had to use four wheel drive to get the tt out of that one.

After a couple more fruitless tries and a rising temperature gauge (mine), we called the office and they were nice enough to give us another site.

(Note: We did talk to some maintenance men as they were picking up adjourning sites about this particular site.  Both agreed that it was a bad site and they were planning on putting some gravel down on it.)

They gave dw explicit directions on how to get to the site.  We followed them and thought it was great until I got out and saw that our sewer pipe was on the wrong side.

So we had to move out of the site, make a u-turn and come on back in while dodging some trees and rocks.

Spent the next day at the Fryeberg Fair and enjoyed ourselves.  Spent the following day driving around Maine to see some foilage.  Not really a lot of that but a nice ride.

On our last morning, I had planned on flushing out the black and grey tanks for the season.  This was to be our last trip of the year.

So I happily dumped the black tank into their septic system.  No problems.

Next is where Robin Williams comes in.  I used the Flush King to backflush the black tank.  As I opened the black tank valve, there was no problem.  Then I heard the rush of water.  I glanced over to the septic tank pipe, and BINGO, there is a fountain about 12 to 18 inches high coming out of that pipe.  Water, water all over the site.  I quickly shut the black valve off.

However, my 15 feet of sewer pipe was still full of black water.  I had to wait until the waste level dropped down in the septic system in order to run the water out of the flexible sewer pipe by lifting sections of the pipe.  This took a while to do as I had to keep on waiting for the water in the septic pipe to go down.  (I was not a happy camper).  Fortunately, this was on the backflush and I didn't see any chunky stuff on the ground.

This also meant that I could not dump my grey tank.

So dw and I finished packing up and I went to the dump station to dump the grey water.  Of course, I could not do a backflush because the dump station did not have a hitchable hose.

On our way to the dump station, I did stop a couple of maintenance men and explained the situation to them.

While I was at the dump station, dw was trying to explain the problem to some woman in the office while dw was getting our $5 back for the gate pass.  Women's comment to DW was that we should have contacted them and they would have pumped out the septic system.  Just a bit late for us.

Anyways, I think I am due the Oscar, not Robin Williams.

Ah, but did they have you use a hose stretcher?

and here I thought you were gonna tell me you went rolling down the road all by itself and you got covered in turd!  Or you met a family like the Gornecki's!  I love that movie...  But it sure doesn't make me want to have an RV like that... I will keep my PUP...

When we were at Camping on the Gulf RV park in Destin FL this Summer I kinda felt like the Goernickis.

We had our $3,000 PU parked next to someone with a very expensive diesel pusher.

The parents hardly had the kids outside...isn't that why you go camping to get out of doors?  At any rate, 1 evening we invited the kids to make some Smores with us over our grill.  My goodness, you'd thought we had asked them to fly to the Moon with us.  The parents grabbed the kids and they were inside within 5 minutes to enjoy their GPS, satellite TV, etc.

My wife and I stood there with our 3 grade school age kids and wondered "what did we say"?

Oh well.

Gene, did you film it all?

Nope, DW is the photographer.  She came out of the tt but without her camera.

Would have been a good one for America's Funniest Videos.

Gene,
I think AoWL needs to upgrade their septic system and holding tanks. Last year they had overflows at the dumping station and a pump truck right there to keep the level down.

So now you tell me Chas. :)  I went there because you like the place.  Wasn't one of my favorites 15 years ago and still isn't.

I hate to see what the weekend brought for them.  They had over 115 sites reserved for the weekend.  Pity the septic system.

When I had the backup, I was the only tt there.  The other two campsites had tents on them.
