Here is what Dan e-mailed me

It's great to be great. Now how to manage expectations...?!
I am going for a personal record but it's a *weak* 5 hr 15 min.
Pretty good for a guy with two screws in one ankle AND a bad hip.
Did Viking know that "recognise" is the Brit variant ?

6Quigs is right in some respects about the final .22 miles...
the less-than-one decimal fools you until you realize it's a
QUARTER OF A MILE, over 1300 feet; from our house to the corner of Kellogg.

However:
1. It's not the best, despite the crowd (usually kept back at least 100 feet)
(never mind the adoring family at the finish, I just want to stop running);
my PERSONAL favorite is miles 23 & 24 when you know you're going
to finish, even if you have to crawl over the line.
2. It's where you're suddenly aware of the sheer distance you've covered;
3. It's where all the aches and pains start clamoring for attention.

I always like to PASS someone in the last .22 mile!

Now, as for you DNA. I would have thought that since I created this post in your honor, for the long distance run you are about to endure, you would, at the very least have the decency to keep the pie hole sealed. ;)
Also, No, I did not know that was the "Brit" way to spell recognize. If I were in England, I would have spelled it that way. However..........

Dan, Dan, he's our man!!!

Go, Fight, Win!!

 :D

Chez Way

Go Dan Go!!!  I couldn't imagine running the 1st mile let alone the last .22!

griffsdad

Go Dan go. I'd come down to watch you, but my Red Sox are playing in the ALCS. Speaking of grammar, it's spelled a lot; two words; not alot.

Go Red Sox!!!!!!

I don't mean to be picky but that's spelling....not "grammer" :p

BTW......it's "grammar" (the spelling, I mean) :D  :book: or is that the way the Britts spell it??....... like aluminium..... :J

Man, and I was so proud of Dave for not rubbing it in that my Angels got humiliated.  Yes, I will admit, the Red Sox are definitely the better team -- even though they have a player that makes the uniform look like gang-banger attire and his hair reminds me of the Predator monster.  But man, can he hit a baseball.

6Quigs

Dan,
great to see you on the boards.

Knew you would know the "correct" spelling of recognise :D

and that you would appreciate (unlike non marathon runners) the importance of the 0.22 miles at the end. :)

12 minute miles is not bad for a old man like you. ;)
My 14 year old daughter is doing cross country running, and I recently ran a 5 mile race with her, nearly killed me, but we crossed the finish line together, which was nice, as I'm sure the next time I race with her, she will leave me in her dust.

Best of luck on Sunday

while there is no way in heck I can even walk 26 miles let alone run it..I can however carry 26 beers :!

DK&3kids

To the other "Dan" in my life - We're proud of you!!!  I'll be the one helping your wife carry 26 beers!!!  Run Dan, Run!!!!
