Have an 06 sea pine.

Used to tow with 95 Bronco Eddie Bauer - towed like a champ.  Unfortunately at 130,000 the transmission started to get ornery when manually changing gears (also the 4-wheel drive stopped working, needed ball joints, mysterious oil leak that nobody could pinpoint the source of, roof/windows leaking and rusting faster than we could repair).  It broke my heart to get rid of it though!

We bought an 08 Durango Hemi - haven't towed with it yet but I'm looking forward to it!

I pull with a 2007 Chevy 2500HD with a Duramax.... extreme overkill for a Pop-Up but I also tow other stuff with it. I also have a 2007 Trailblazer that Ive used to take it to the shop but I haven't towed it out for a camping trip yet. Maybe this summer.

Guess I'm solidly in the minority here.  I use a 96 Subaru Outback, 2.2L 5-spd.
to tow a 1500lb GVWR Coleman pop-up.  Small-bore 4-bangers forever!  The
Subie is one of few small cars out there with a decent towing capacity.  Great
stopping power, but it's pretty weak on the hills.

The good news is the spike in gas prices really isn't a big deal when you're running
such a small engine.  Even fully loaded in the VT hills I'm averaging over 20mpg.
About 30mpg with nothing in tow.  The bad news is gearing down for every hill.
I can live with it though.

So far we love it.  Around 19-21mpg by itself, and 13-15mpg Towing

I voted "small pickup" because we towed the popup with a Nissan Frontier (1998), and that was what the question asked.

However, we now have a hybrid and I tow with a 1/2 ton Chevy.
