Large holes in canvas

Hello all,

I just got a Coleman Redwood, It seems to be in great shape except for 20-30 holes in the canvas from mice. "Great shape" being a relative term, I purchased the camper for $100.

  I searched the forum and found a suggestion for tear-aid, do you think this will be an appropriate solution for these holes, there are several that are larger than 3

You can do a google for tent repair kits and several will turn up. I see Campmor has one that includes one piece of 8" square canvas and one 8" piece of screening material for not too bad a price.

Looks like a lot of patching but could get you by for awhile. You could (after patching) cover the PU with one of those plastic tarps (maybe a 16' X 20'), tying and staking off the corners, that would make sure you stayed dry on a rainynight.

my first PUP didn't have holes like that, but it DID have a leaky roof - and I got thru the first summer with a tarp over the whole thing as suggested above.  It ain't pretty, but it works!

If you do 'patch' that many holes, and are going to use a tarp anyway - I would suggest using Iron-on adhesive  or a water-proof glue to apply the patches rather than trying to sew the patches. You'll go crazy trying to 'sew' that many!

Hi-

Our little Coleman Taos has quite a few holes in the canvas but not as bad as yours.

It looks like someone fixed the holes by ironing tan colored blue jean patches on each side of the canvas.  The patches are about 8" x 8".  They work prettly well.

For the screens, pieces of fiberglas screening are sewn over the holes.
