Well.......my brother just called. They evacuated the entire town of Fallbrook. They opened up Camp Pendleton and he was pulling his trailer through there when he called. Our renters got out of our house.

Haven't been able to contact my step-son. Carolyn's daughter has a home in Running Springs...........there are fires all over the place up there.....about 150 homes (reported) lost.

This is unbelievable. :eyecrazy:

More thoughts and prayers from MN.  Please stay safe.

We are fine....Foothill Ranch is about 6-8 miles away from us.  We keep our trailer over in Foothill...and haven't dropped it off as our trailer backs up to an undeveloped slope there.  Gotta save the trailer!!

Thanks for the concern....

We have friends who live in Running Springs and have had to evacuate in most of the last fires.  I haven't heard if they've evacuated yet.   DH is in near Ontario/Rancho Cucamonga for a class and they called his day short because part of the Sheriff's facility they are at needed to be evacuated.  He's not sure where they have to go tomorrow for their class.

Has anyone talked to Estelle (Estone)....they live in Rancho Bernardo, don't they??

I called her cell...left a message...

Thanks everyone for your concern. We are okay for rightnow, but night has just fallen and the wind is still whipping down the canyons into our neighborhhod. From our secod floor window, I can see the ridge across from ours completely lined with a rim of fire. Scary. Three streets next to ours were ordered to evacuate--no ifs, ands, or buts; we are under voluntary evacuation orders. Of course, we haven't left, and hopefully, we won't have to, but if we do, the cars are packed and ready to go. Wouldn't you know that is the one time I actually unpacked the bags and put away all our clothes the same day we got home from a rally!!! :swear:

We couldn't take the camper back to storage last night b/c of wind damage and debris at the El Toro Marine base, so it is still parked in front of our house, hitched to the expy. I have been watering down the rubber roof all day. Our neighbors have started calling it the "Command Post." The air is so thick with smoke, it hurts to breath even with a mask, my eyes are stinging, and I smell like I've been sitting in front of one of Dee's campfires for a week. But the good news is that we are safe (in fact, Dave's sacked out; apparently, I do enough worrying for 10 people) and Griffin is at Nana's, about 10 miles away, where he is safe, although very worried.

I've taken nearly 100 photos of the fire throughout the day and will share some of them when I can connect to my laptop that is packed in my car right now. It's funny how a fire will show you what "things" are really important in life. For me, it's my family and pets, photos, photo albums, and quilts that I've inherited and/or made. Everything else is replaceable and far less relevant.

My prayers go out to everyone in our SCCampers family who may be affected by the fires that are raging through the Southland. Please stay safe and let us know how you are when you get a chance.

Lori......I hope that you can get some sleep. We are all praying for you.

I know that Carolyn won't sleep tonight. She went through this in 2003 and she almost lost both of her sons. That fire traveled 25 miles over-night. They woke up in the middle of the night with their house on fire. They had no clue that the fire was that close.

You can tell that the fire fighters learned a lot from that 2003 fire. They are using very few assets on the fire that is burning brush. They are putting all of their assets around the homes this time and it seems to be working much better. It is really amazing how few homes have been lost in this fire (in comparison). The fires are far more wide spread and the winds are much worse.

You are right about the fire fighters having learned some major lessons in 2003, Wayne. It was incredibly watching them work. They would send the majority of the crew down the line and leave a couple of men back at the line they had just fought to put out anything that started up again--think "leap-frog fire fighting." It was obvious to us that they were doing their best to stretch some very thin resources. And unlike the last time our community was on fire (1998), we had no helicopter drops this time around--not sure if it was due to greater-than-40 mph winds or lack of enough helicopters to go around. It's a little unnerving to see them go into "last stand" mode though. But above all, you never really appreciate what fire fighters (and police and other safety personnel) do for us more than when they are doing their life-risking jobs, and saving our homes, lives, etc. It reminds me to not take them for granted.

I just got a recorded message from Griffin's school. Today, they evacuated 1,320 kids...safely. Everyone--give your child's teacher a hug--they do far more than merely teach our children.

We made it home safe.  There was smoke all the way to San Luis Obispo.  It was so thick it blocked out the sun and mountain range.  We are keeping all of you in our thoughts.  STAY SAFE!
If in the horrible event that anybody loses their home to the fire, Todd & I would be only too happy to tow the toyho down there as a temporary housing unit.

Hey guys,
I just got off the phone with Estelle and Kent.  They were forced out this AM at 7:30 - currently they are at a friend's condo in Carlsbad at the beach.  The Hardees are also evacuated (they are neighbors).  Right now, the neighborhood is fine and looks like they can all return tomorrow morning.  They said to thank everyone and to let everyone else affected to know that they are thinking about them, too!

Wow!  This is downright unbelievable.  Stay safe everyone - we are praying for that.  (Now let's all join in the SCCAMPER rain dance!)

Be careful what you offer. If I move into your trailer, I can't promise you that I'd ever move out.  It's nicer than my home!!! ;)
