I talked to RB's (dh's) extended family which one of them live in Running Springs and she stated that their house is fine so far.  Two of the houses on top of her street where they live are gone.    They are staying at her sisters house and don't want to watch the news.  One of Eileen's daughters friends watched the news and found her house was burning down, now that's not the way to find out.

I'm glad that everyone's house is safe (for now) and I'll try and contact the Hardee's to see how they are.    This is just horrible.

I think by the time this is over most all of us are going to know someone that has lost their home......Our son's best friend lost his house in the S.D. area.....As far as us it's only the smoke and lots of it around here........but most of Calif. is covered under a thick cloud of the yuck........Lets pray the firemen and women can get an upper hand soon and this will just be a very bad memory and the SCCamper family stays safe......

We are so tired of all this smoke we're thinking of hitching the trailer back up and heading out of town to get away........Not sure just where maybe towards the Bishop area or?????

we have been evacuted and staying in our trailer in oceanside..ALL OF US...two dogs 7 people living in the trailer for several days,  we packed up and left late on Sunday the smoke was so thick in Santa Paula so we left and came home.  Late Sunday night Bryan and Heather were evacuated from Ramona.  it took them 4 hourss to get down the hill to our house. that was about 4:30 a.m. We went to bed and at 7:30 got the call that we were to evacuate.  we were still connected to the trailer and drove to OS and stayed in a campground there.  Yesterday we got to come home at about 6:00 P.M.  Heather and Bryan are still at the campground with our trailer.  heather is out of her meds and Kaiser would not fill them  until late Yesterday.  Needless to say she is in bad shape and cant drive...and they have both cars..Bryan doesn't want to move here again.  Ramona is still evacuated because of not water or power..  But we are all safe and that is what is important.  Sorry I didn't post sooner but I came home to soot all over the place and have be vacuuming and washing floors.  Dave has reported back to work`today. Cleaning and clearing down trees leaves and stuff.

Sue...glad to hear you all are safe!!

Our school district, Capistrano, and our neighboring districts, Saddleback and Irvine, are closed again tomorrow (Irvine was open today and the parents were livid).

Those of you who are teachers will understand this...I am all stressed over my lesson plans!  I am always three weeks planned ahead.  So, now on Monday, I need to do Thursday plans, Friday on Tuesday....I can only cut out so much. Ack!!!!!  And, we have parent conferences next week...so short days on Tues and Wed, no school on Th and Fri!  Double Ack!!!!

And, I am only part-time...feeling full-time stress!!!!

We teachers are wondering about the two days off...we heard they aren't going to add it to the calendar...you don't have to make up days missed for natural disasters. However, we are wondering if the district is going to let us teachers get away with two days of pay for nothing!  Someone said they might tack on two days for us...for in-service or whatever.  Have any of you teachers ever dealt with school closures...what happened?

I think Kwisti said Estelle and them were able to go back home.  I don't know about Roberta (Popupmomma)!  Her location says Rancho San Diego....I thought Poway...and she hasn't been on!

I've been home twice -- once for the riots (1 week), and the other for the Northridge earthquake (1 week).  If I remember correctly, we had to make up a couple of days, but maybe just for the earthquake.  Maybe you'll luck out & not have to make them up.

You might have to make up the days - they might tack it on to the end of the year - it seems to me that this has happened to me years ago in Palm Springs.  Now....take a deep breath and toss the lesson plans and just pick up the new week.  One less test or whatever won't matter.  Have a few drinks, take out the ol' lesson plan book and start crossing things out!  Waala!  You're all caught up!  :p   (I've been cooped up inside just one too many days with these kids!!!!!!...apparently, we are the ONLY local district who hasn't cancelled days!)

Hey everyone,

We came home yesterday and our immediate neighborhood (And Dave and Sue Hardee's) is safe!!!  We are so fortunate.  We just have tons of ash and soot in the garage and the perimeter of the house.  Also, it got under the bottoms of some of the doors.  I remember the last fire, I was cleaning windows for months!

My best friend lost her house (I believe).  I spoke to her Tuesday and she said they were evacuated at 4:00 A.M. as were my parents who live the street below her.  As my friend was leaving, they were putting out embers on their garage. I don't know for certain, but from the reports, most of the houses on her whole street went up in flames.  They live in a community called the Trails.  They are huge houses on extremely large lots with lots of trees and vegetation.  I haven't been able to get her again recently.  My parents were only able to go home this afternoon.

We got the call at 8:00 Mond. morning to leave.  We then drove to Kent's office in Solana Beach and re-grouped.  John's Godparents have a weekend condo in North Carslbad on the beach and were able to stay there.  Luke has asthma, so it was good for him.  He hasn't been able to go out and he's going stir crazy.  It was a very scary situation to say the least and I know many of you can agree.  At one point, Kent was behind me in his car with John, Mark had his car and I had mine with Luke.  Kent told me to go a certain route to the coast and as I was driving into Rancho Santa Fe it got black.  No one was on the road and I almost got hysterical.  I thought I was driving directly into a fire.  Luckily I went around it and it ended up fine, but I was scared to death to say the least.  We left the cat at Kent's office and took the dog to the condo with us.

The air is still bad.  My garage smells like a bowling alley.  There is so much ash, I am overwhelmed looking at it. But it's better than the alternative.  We will definately have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Thank you to all who called, and everyone's thoughts and prayers and offers of help.  We truly are grateful to all of you.  Some of you I haven't been able to get back to. Sometimes my cell worked, sometimes it didn't.

Glad everyone else is safe.

Thanks again!
