We're contemplating a trip 12/26 thru New Year's day to Goose Island SP on the Texas Gulf Coast near Rockport.  Wonder if anyone has experience there and any tips. Saw one post regarding geocaching in the area. Looking for more detailed info. They have spots near the water and some in the "woods" which I opted for to avoid potentially cold winds.

Just the wife and I and two dogs.

I live on the gulf coast of TX. Haven't been to Goose Island in quite a while. Winter is the best time to go there I think. Not to hot, no mosquitos. Definitley camp in the trees or the you'll be eating sand the whole time.
Rockport is a very nice place. Very artsy fartsy. Lots of galleries, Rockport Center for the Arts is a neat place. They have art workshops there. Good places to eat too. Try seafood at Charlotte Plummers at Fulton harbor (which connects to Rockport). Check out the Fulton Mansion- historic old place. Bay fishing is popular.
Day trips can be takent to Corpus Christi which is close by. Got to sea the Texas Aquarium.
The other direction(east) from Goose Isle is Aransas Wildlife refuge. Lots of animals, birds, and Whooping Cranes.
We love to camp at Lake Texana SP, Edna, TX. It is about2 hours from Goose. It is a regular place for us. Lots of large oaks, nice camp spots right on the lake.
Hope you have a wonderful time!

Had a great time there last summer.  Unfortunately, so did the mosquitos.  That was my only complaint.  A liberal application of Deep Woods Off would only last about an hour.  They did have three different types of campsites by my classification.   Campsites on the beach, windy and sunny.  Campsites 'in a row' open along a straight roadway.  Finally, they have large campsites completely surrounded by trees and secluded from other campers.  We stayed in one of the more secluded campsites but didn't get to enjoy it too much because of the mosquitos.  A Dec. trip would probably be great in one of those sites.

They have a great fishing pier that has a channel running under it.  We caught some drum and trout and I came away with a great 'the one that got away' story.  The bathrooms were well kept and the staff very nice.

Definitely eat at Charlotte Plummers on Fulton Rd.!!!

Lots of stuff to do at Corpus Christi and a lot of fishing from Port Aransas.

Have a great trip!

Hope you have a great trip
