We made the Thanksgiving trip to Roper Lake State park.

The drive from Phoenix was not too bad. The ole Tacoma slowed to about 45 going up the mountain pass at Globe. When we got to the campsite, they had our spot already marked out for us. I am glad I called ahead for reservations, as all spots with hookups were sold. Since we would be cooking Thanksgiving Dinner, full hookups were just what we needed.

I was impressed with the campsite. Our spot was very large and there was some nice trees for cover. Dinner consisted of Honey Baked Ham, Turkey Breast, stuffing, green bean casserole, rice & brocolli and Pecan pie for Dessert. This was the first time we used the oven in the popup. It fit a Half Honey baked ham just perfect. We premade the side dishes and warmed them up with the microwave.

After sunset, the temperature dropped and the wind started. We had other families with us in tents and they were not comfortable. We really enjoyed the heater in our popup. We ended up with lots of company due to our toasty living quarters.

Friday consisted of fishing in Roper Lake. It has a lot of nice fishing areas where you can relax on the bank and watch the bobber while sipping a cold beer. Even though the fish were not biting, we enjoyed fishing the lake a few hours. We ate leftovers that evening. The kids had a nice fire going and were mass producing smores.

In closing,

Roper lake is a nice campground for full hookups. It did not feel like a over run RV park. There was nice seperation from other campers and plenty of foliage to provide privacy. It was far from roughing it as we cooked in the oven, ran the heater and had full water hookups. Since it was Thanksgiving, it provided a great spot for all the cooking and cleaning you would expect. The closest town is Safford and it is one of those small quaint towns. We used every option of our 2007 Fleetwood Niagra and were impressed with its ability to live in.

I wish we could have made the trip with you as we had planned but some things came up with my wife and it made it impossible. Reading your review has only made me want to make a trip out there even more. It sounds like it is worth the trip. You didn't say anything about the hotsprings. Did you go in?

It sounds like it will be a nice spring trip for us. Maybe we can hook up for a trip out there then or perhaps go somewhere else.

I forgot to mention the hot springs. We really enjoyed the hot springs tub. The temp was over 100 degrees and the water was very clear. We went in at night when the weather was cold. It was very refreshing to sit in the hot natural water and look up to the clear sky and view the many stars.
